That is why you bring in paperwork showing the value of the vehicle your buying and get a preapproval before you go. If you have the cash in hand the price seems to get a little better. Its not that they are bad people, its business. If they sell cars at a higher price, they make more money. People will buy the car because they dont really know what they are doing and they get overpriced.
Its like people on Ebay selling the PS3 for 300-500% markup. Its not right, but people will buy it because it is what they want.

My fav Steven's Creek experience was when the salesman swore to me that the 2004 Legacy GT was turbo. I'm glad they have such a knowledgable sales staff.
Their parts department took 6 weeks to get me a oil galley plug for my OP gauge. And that was with me providing them the subaru part number because they could not figure it out. They also wanted a $10,000 mark up on 05 STi's when I was shopping for mine.
When I was looking for my 2004 STi Stevens Creek quoted me $38,000 over the phone. I laughed out loud, hung up, called Santa Cruz, and they quoted me $30,000 over the phone. I drove home in my new STi from Santa Cruz that same day.
So, yeah, "it's business", but Santa Cruz is in that same business and Stevens Creek still manages to rein as King of Douch Baggery. I think if their method of business is to soak uneducated buyers then yes, it does indeed make them "bad people".

Unfortunately, I've found a dealership in SoCal (Oxnard Toyota) who is owned by the DCH company. DCH stands for Dishonest Crooked Hustlers...
...they saw him coming from 10 miles away. He has brain cancer, which affects several areas including his decision making processes...he might not see the new year...
...they gouged him for almost 12k above MSRP for his Highlander Hybrid. Now they'll be happy to buy it back...for approximately 15k BELOW what they gouged him for.
45k purchase price including ext. warranty, pre-paid maintenance, etc.
they will give him $29k for the car back.
2 months the car depreciates by $16k? They know that they can cancel all the warranty stuff, and pocket the extra money, then sell the car for another $8k profit.
F*** them. I hope their dealership burns to the ground, and takes all the salesmen with it.
