had your car stolen?

Just found out that someone stole my project car that was in storage. Never had to deal with the insurance company about a stolen car before, would appreciate some pointers. The car was a civic, with a built motor and a bunch of goodies, so it's worth a lot more than bluebook. What did you have to do to show the company how much stuff cost, etc?

Thanks..

they will most likely not cover the modifications. they will give you blue book value

It depends on what coverage you have on your policy. Besides talking to your adjuster, you might also want to talk to your agent about your policy endorsements. Some policies have "Additional Equipment" endorsements that will pay you back for your mods w/ 2 conditions: 1.) that you have your receipts and/or other proof of the mods (photos, etc.) and 2.) most often only up to a certain dollar amount. Also, it's a good idea to report this to the police as well. Good luck.

Unhappy

If you have receipts for your parts, they may cover it. Some 10 years ago, when my wife's '91 Civic was stolen, we recovered more than blue book as I had kept all the receipts of my mods.
Sorry to hear and I know how it feels.

just like choku said, some insurance companies have an "aftermarket parts coverage" option that you can chose when buying your insurance, some insurance companies already cover it. my buddy had his rx7 stolen a last year back and fortunately got it recovered with some minor body work needed, minus bride seats, works wheels, and some other things. He has Esurance and didnt choose the "aftermarket parts coverage" but he still got money back to rebuy the seats and rims that got stolen. How he did it....I dont know. Maybe the claims adjuster was hella cool or hella stupid thinking those came stock.

Did you have any other kind of insurance that may be able to apply here? Getting extensive modifications covered by normal auto insurance (even full coverage) will be a stretch. The adjusters want to look good to the business so they don't "give it up" easily.

If you had some kind of contents insurance or something for the storage facility that would be better. Check with the storage peeps.

Thanks guys, all great suggestions. I have some photos and a few receipts, so that is a good start I guess. I thought I had a stated value policy, but checked and didn't. I'll give the insurance ppl a call on monday and see where this goes.

If you guys see a B18C1 engine with a *blue* valve cover, greddy turbo kit, 15" mugen rims, Sparco Speed seats, Crow 5 point harness for sale, let me know.
