The closest I've ever gotten to getting any hassle about my car is my red APS hard turbo inlet. (Kind of want to paint it black, but it'd be a PITA now that it's on the car) Hopefully with whatever changes, it stays that way... haha

They can turn you away from smogging your car though if they're not comfortable (grey area issues) or ask you to take it to the referee. Thats perfectly legal.
Exactly. When you go to the REF, things that ARE legal, such as a catback that meets the 95dB limit, will pass, PERIOD. I've already been through it with a different car and passed with no changes for what I was ticketed for (sound). For anything that does not, you have time to correct it and get rechecked because you technically can't smog until you're approved at that point.

Smog shops don't check your sound levels. Cops or the REF do.

I have one that's painted black that I am about to put up for sale. Not sure what it's worth but let me know if you are interested. Keep it around for that rainy day when you feel like pulling your manifold.

Guys, again this is just something I heard from a friend, they can refuse whatever they want, may be. I know loud exhaust doesn't affect smog at all. I passed smog with my JDM Ti Trust legally no problem. What he was saying is "pass along if I have any Suby friends, some of the smog station may watch more closely to Suby's mod(exhaust, intake...etc) and don't be surprise if they refuse to smog it" when you go smog your car.

You can call me and my friend BS all you want, but I'm just sharing what I heard and the story about that dude. If you have your car smog with aftermarket exhaust, intake or whatever you have without any problem, then good for you!

Understood and that is certainly their choice as a business; however if I bring them a car that is legal and they turn me away, they don't deserve my business. The fine for them for getting caught falsifying / passing a car that isn't legal is pretty steep last time I heard, but they should also know what is legal and what is not.
