Gun question
I know there more than a few gun nuts on this board right here!
Heres the deal: I want to go to the shooting range so I can practice my shooting in case the Revolution comes *knock on wood. My dad has owned a M-1 Garand Rifle for as long as I can remember, so I know it predates the assault weapons ban. But to my knowledge he has never registered it. My question - is the M-1 Garand classified as an assault rifle? I've been reading up on it, and that list doesnt specifically ban it. I heard something about bayonent mounts amounting to an assault rifle, but I can't find it in any of the sites I've been looking at. Can anybody help me out?
I want to gets a starts to shoosting!

not considered as an "evil" assault rifle:
http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/genchar.htm
get rid of the bayonet mount, and it's nothing but a semi auto rifle.
funny how stupid politicians are. the ********* first said, ARs are bad. so manufacturers just rename the rifles. takes them another 4-5years to rewrite the laws...
dummies...
dont forget, the national AW ban sunset'ted last september. did you read about all the shootouts and stuff soon afterwards?

No worry, anyway, the Assault weapons ban was banning Assault rifles from being purchased, you can still shoot and register guns acquired before the ban. Check out ar15.com Great resource plus if you can find some guys in your area to shoot with.

not in kalifornia...
no more registrations...
just like the recent 50 cal bans. i have till jun 06 to reg my 50 cals or they are illegal...
once the 50 cals were made into the evil "assault" rifles, they became banned. and were given 18 months to get registered...
if you are in kalifornia and OWN an UNREGISTERED "assault" rifle, better not get caught...
well tell that to WA state residents...
there is talk that they wanna ban "assault" weapons too... well i guess seeing that WA state is so liberal anyways...
once the ban up there is inacted... who else can they blame for their troubles...

Cracks me up how .50 cal are considered evil, but a .450 Marlin Pistol is legal? WTF? I was at target masters today playing with my ported 686(did 3 boxes of 38s and one box of 357) and noted the MRI BFR .450 Marlin(BFR meaning Big F&*king Revolver) in the case, OMFG that thing was scary!

I felt like such a wuss pooping the 38s out of my....well I used to call it my hand cannon until I saw the .450
To put in persepctive Left to Right .450 Marlin, 30-06, 308, 22-250... the last three are rifle catridges...

Oh but no, shouldn't have to register a Garand. Hows your dads thumbs? I still have a notch on mine from the last time I touched an M1.

the m1 is solely a semi-automatic rifle, not classified as an assault rifle unless it:
1: has a protruding pistol grip handle OR
2: bayonet/ exterior attachment OR
3: flashguard/muzzle mount
4: greater than a 10rd magazine.
most old m1's have bayonet mounts which you'd have to remove under the new assault rifle ban which no longer recognizes "grandfathered" guns.
its still a nice gat, just beware when you take it out.

Last time I saw him used it... he shot a couple warning shots at some punks who were shooting BBs at our door.
My dad is pretty OG... he was in the Philippines during the Civil War in the 70s. He got ambushed by the Muslim rebels couple of times. He taught me how the M-4 on our farm works, how to clean it, load it, a lil of the basics.

That's nutso, I like to have fun when I shoot, even more than a box or two of 357 mags gets old to me. I had a guy with a 8.5" .44 in the lane next to me and that thing was too insane. He'd squeeze off a few rounds, sit down, massage his hands, get back up and do to or three more rounds then sit down again. What fun is that? Granted pumping a 240grain .44 starfire into someone coming in my house would be very entertaining, but going through a few boxes of the big stuff at the range? maybe I am a wuss

. For pistols, I've fired 9mm, 10mm, and .45. If you have the right form and practice, the kick is not that bad. It also helps to have strong forearms and triceps.
I dunno.. after having fired an M60, an M249, and M16/M4, and M203, other rifles just don't seem to compare.
I've also had a chance to play with (but, sadly, not fire) a Barrett "light fifty" (I'm sure you guys know about THIS .50 cal sniper rifle), a Ma Deuce (M2 .50 cal machine gun), and a Mark 19 (40mm automatic grenade launcher). Hmm.. I suppose I should count the 105mm canon I've fired as well (as in, loaded powder in the round, armed the round, loaded the round, closed the chamber, and pulled the lanyard).
I'm not a big revolver fan. Give me a solid automatic any day (P99, Glock 23C, etc). For big rounds, I'd rather have a DE .50. Nothing increases the pucker factor more than seeing the distinctive shape of a Desert Eagle .50 hand canon pointed in your general direction.

Was assigned to the M249 for a year like any other cherry Pvt. and eventually worked my way to an M4/203 with CCO/PEQ2a with LRSU & LRSD.
Shot and qualified with the M82A1 Barrett quite often, was assign to an M24 as a "Cat II" and had bullets loaded to my specific weapons tolerances with 325th AIR scout platoon. Also shot the Browning (fun) and Mrk19 (more fun) with the 11H's and learned how to fully operate/clean them if need be as the Browning can be quite tricky. Also had the Browning and Mrk19 for stations at EIB a few times.
But I've never shot a 105mm... you officers had all the fun.
