The Guitar Thread
I've been playing guitar for about 6 years now. I'm admittedly not an expert guitar player, but can hold my own when it comes to learning to play songs via tabs. I've got yamaha acoustic guitar, a nice looking classical guitar with mother of abalone embedded in it, and a fender telecaster (mexican made) with a Fender Super Champ XD amp.
I never took formal lessons and pretty much taught myself from ultimate-guitar.com tabs. I wish i knew how to read music and 'hear' notes.
My favorite bands to cover on the acoustic guitar:
Radiohead, Incubus, Elliot Smith, and much much more.
What do you guys like to play?

i too have a drum set that was sitting in my cousins garage. i mess around on it from time to time. drums are alot of fun, especially if you've got someone with you to play guitar or bass.

I have a nice collection of guitars and amplifiers...been playing about 18 years.
Always love the classies....for me that is G'N'R and Metallica
A lot of 90s rock/grunge/whatever, older rock and metal...and then I discovered Stevie Ray Vaughan.
Slash has always been my favorite guitar player. I cannot wait for the next Snakepit album. Velvet Revolver is the suck!!

Been playing bass for the last 10 years or so. GK 2x10 mini stack, Fender Standard Fretless 4 string. I have a '72 (I think) root beer brown Telecaster Bass in storage. I used to play a lot of guitar too, but I sold all my stuff when I was in college.
I've been playing for quite a while. Haven't got together with anyone to jam since I 3was in the service. After the service I dabbled a bit here and there, but pretty much put it down. This past year I made a resolution to pick it back up and start playing again.
I have a tried and true acoustic '94 Washburn Limited Edition, American standard Telecaster with Texas special pups. Amps I've got a fender Princeton Chorus, and a Yamaha RA-100. Pedal board looks like this, Boss NS-2 (Noise supressor), Ibanez TS-808, Vox Distortion Booster, Keely Compressor, Boss GE-7, Boss CE-5, Electro Harmonix Memory Man, Boss RC-2 Loop STation.
I'm currently building a custom Telecaster with a single TV Jones Bridge pup. It's gonna be pretty sick.
All that gear and I still suck.

I have a Yamaha acoustic from Costco haha. It comes with all the goodies (stand, strap, picks, tuner).
My buddies and i used to jam at their garage years ago. We've covered alot of 90's alt music, some 80's like the Cure, U2, REM, GNR etc. My favorites are songs from Incubus, JimmyEatworld, 311, Sublime, Foo Fighters, Lifehouse, RedHot Chili Peppers etc.
I miss those jamming sessions. It was a great time to enjoy each others company and just letting your emotions out.
Hopefully, my son picks up some of those musical interest as well.
Cheers

Oh yes, forgot to add above I play a lot of random stuff, but I'm on a Mazzy Star Kick right now. Just learned Fade Into You and now working on Before I Sleep. Before that it was Neko Case, and my own little rendition of Margaret Vs Pauline.
Btw, referencing the original post on this thread, I've been on an Elliot Smith listening binge for a while now...this thread just inspired me to look up Needle in the Hay and give it a go. So Royal Tenenbaums
