Instead of posting a link, post the contents. Because "some" folk still do not or cannot go to NASIOC.

Im curious as to the interest in a large Northern California excursion (1 full day of driving) in late July/Early August, that would basically be an almost 400 mile trip from the Truckee/Soda Springs area to Fort Bragg on the coast.

I got this idea with a combination of Kevins (BAN SUV's) insistance on driving on highway 36 sometime this summer, and from looking around at the roads on www.pashnit.com and noticed on the Wentworth post that some folks sounded very interested...

Anyhow, I have to family houses I can use, one up in Kingvale off of I-80 in the Sierras (that I used for an NASIOC Ski Trip a couple years ago and for the Reno Auto-x trip this month) and a beach house to use in Fort Bragg. However, I can only fit about 12 persons on couches/beds at both places, so if we do this and there are more than that many people who decide to come along they might have to rent a room at a Motel (Theres one up the street from the place in Fort Bragg, and there is the place by Boreal on Donner Pass like two exits down from the Cabin). This might end up only being a neccesity for Fort Bragg, as the Cabin will be used as only an overnight stoping grounds before the day trip...

I presume it will happen on a Friday/Saturday/Sunday, where we will meet up Friday evening at the Cabin to stay overnight and leave at 6am Saturday morning, and arrive hopefully in Fort Bragg before dark and people can do what they want on Sunday time wise.

Anyhow, the reason for all this is the roads of course Here is a map of what the trip would look like:

http://community.webshots.com/photo.../77444278VWhMHb

The first leg will be Highway 89 from Truckee up to where we turn off and go over to Red Bluff (which is on Highway 5)
http://www.pashnit.com/roads/cal/Highway89.htm

The second leg consists of one of the best roads in the state if not the country, Highway 36 from Red Bluff to the coast http://www.pashnit.com/roads/cal/Highway36.htm

The third leg will be variable dependent on time. We could turn off and go over to Matthole Road out to the coast which seems like a great ride http://www.pashnit.com/roads/cal/MattoleRd.htm or we can just turn and go down Highway 101 to Highway 1 and perhaps drive on the "Avenue of the Giants" a bit through the Humbolt Redwoods http://www.pashnit.com/roads/cal/Redwoods.htm and then down to Fort Bragg itself.
If we have time, we could actually do both parts of Matholle and the Avenue of the Giants, so we can see parts of everything.

So if we do do this, I'd have to recommend that folks bring a spare driver, and not plan on stopping every hour (maybe every 2 hours) to use the bathroom since for a couple stretches we might not see much of civilization for awhile We will definatly have to stop for at least lunch, possibly dinner if we take to long. Definatly bring an ample water supply and plan on holding it in

I'd also recommend traveling light, and not having too much crap rolling around in your trucks causing the cars weight to shift in the middle of a corner, and I also think we would need radios in every car to communicate. It wont be a constantly fast pace like some of the smaller trips, but it wont be slow either because driving on unfamilair twisty roads in the dark is not entertaining, especially for the lead car (me) so i'd like to make it to fort bragg in 12-13 hours before it gets dark!
Everyone would need maps for sure, and either be willing to keep up with a subie caravan or be stuck having to navigate the way themselves... (which is an option too, having seperate different groups if we have alot of cars)

Anyhow, im adding a pole to this to help figure out how many people would come. DONT RESPOND TO THE POLL IF YOU ARE NOT COMING!
