Unhappy Grinding sound at rear of car

hi all,

my 04 sti has a grinding sound at very low speeds (0 to 5 mph) at the rear of the car. almost a metal to metal sound for half a second. i have not done mods to the car.

Haven't noticed it too much before but the noise has gotten louder. what do you all think it could be? anyone else has similar experience?

hmmm... never heard of that before. I wound understand if it was a brake indicator sound... but that sound isn't "grinding", per se.... well, actually, I could see how someone might hear it that way. The sound definitely gets louder and louder when you are low on brakes.
Bring the car up to speed and brake to a stop. If you don't hear a noise while you are braking then it is definitely at the brakes.

What setting is your DCCD at when the noise occurs?

thanks for the quick reply. i only have 3500 miles though. so i am thinking it's not the brakes.

i think i will need to try to replicate that sound tonight.

I remember reading that the DCCD can cause an audible clunking at low speeds, but I think that's only when turning. Good luck...

it might just be the brake pads dragging against the rotors. that's normal
