From Oakland to Greece. I was just at the opening ceremony of the 50th rally acropolis. I must say, WRC is the most fan friendly sport in the world. The cars rolled onto the podium and most of the drivers just sat in them until the flag was waved and then drove off. Peter Solberg was the only one who got out of his car and yelled "WE ARE GOING TO FIGHT!!!" It almost brought tears to my eyes. The best thing is, all of the 90 cars entered drove down the narrow city streets of Athens each following a police escort motorcycle. Hundreds of us were lining the streets and shouted "Get out of the way" so the cops could speed up. This forced the drivers to have to play catch-up which meant seeing them mash on the gas and hearing the all too familiar backfires on deceleration. All this while being close enough to pat the drivers on the shoulders! Now I'm off to Lilea, about 200k north of Athens to watch the Super Special stage. This stage is nuts. It has jumps, water splashes, a tunnel and as if that is crazy enough, sprinklers line the entire track making it extra slippery!!! I wish all the BA members were here to share this experience.

Don't all the super stages have tunnels? That's how they make the cross-over right?

 

Petter S. is my personal favorite driver in the WRC. I cheer for him on every race. Which is would i'll be doing tonight when i watch it on SPEED.
