Long way to SLC? how much time do you have?

Lots of interesting places in the Silver State, lots and lots and lots of unpaved miles out there too...

Brian,

I did 3 hours on dirt between Battle Mountain or Carlin (can't remember which now!) and Fallon - just using the compass to keep in the general direction I wanted to go. There's almost too much dirt out there!

Just make sure you have plenty of water with you ... and a tarp!

Have fun!

I backed up a 1/4 miles to read that sign again and take the photo. Wasn't til I was driving away that I noticed the extra 0 had been painted on (it really pops out in the photo though).

Wow Pete, that looks rad. We're going to have a good chunk of time, so that really shouldn't be an issue. The wifey wants to check out some ghost towns too if there are any around there. I've got some research to do, but you've certainly got the ideas churning now.

I took Indian Valley/Peach Tree Road to 198 north before picking up Highway 25. Now Indian Valley is a fun road! 40 miles of single lane asphault twisties, 100+ mph open stretches and almost zero traffic. Just lots of squirrels playing vehicular chicken.

My favorite down that way is Parkfield Grade, unpaved, and nice and twisty both going up and coming down.

those are great roads.. one is old and disused one-lane, the other is well maintained smooth 1-lane with long straights and plenty of blind 90 degree turns and woopdedoos. I approached from the south.. but those to rt 25 or 198 presents a great variety in just a few hours.
