Pretty sure the government has been ruining cars for decades.

I met a dude who was involved in the analysis of those Toyotas with the stuck accellerators. It was traced to an out of tolerance part in the accellerator lever.

What the gorvernment should do is makre sure people actually know how to drive before giving them a license. Idiots cause more accidents than all manufacturer defects combined.

From reading that article, wouldn't it be easier to just ban Toyota and Lexus from the states?

or we can make getting a license more difficult.
Like in Europe where it cost an arm & a leg and 2 years of study/training.
Less idiot drivers on the road, less accidents.
Do you think a 5 lane freeway filled with Stigs driving 911s with no speed limit would be safe?
I would rather drive there in the slow lane than LA traffic with idiot Prius drivers floorin it everywhere

Thats exactly what I was thinking when I read this, “By updating our safety standards, we’re helping give drivers peace of mind that their brakes will work even if the gas pedal is stuck down while the driver is trying to brake.”

But soon enough somebody will find out how to override it and we have to hope that its not tested every few years or against the law to disengage it.

The problem is that we don't have a public transportation infrastructure like Europe does.

Just to play devil's advocate: I was under the impression that this "feature" was intended to make up for drivers' mistakes. I think that we can all agree that we've made mistakes when driving; maybe not looking well enough before changing lanes and not seeing the car in your blind spot for example? You can train someone all you want but you won't make them a perfect driver.

Don't get me wrong I think this whole thing is ridiculous but I can understand their argument.
