Thumbs down government is cutting on OT pay. pls help to oppose, thank you.

SUBJECT: Urgent: Congress will vote on overtime Thursday
DATE: June 2, 2003

U.S. House Republican leaders have scheduled a vote for
Thursday, June 4, on a bill to take away overtime pay for millions
of people. The bill, called H.R. 1119, would let employers
offer comp time instead of overtime pay--but bosses would
have complete control over when--or even if--a worker
could really take time off.

Please take one minute to do these two things to stop
this awful legislation. Even if you've acted before, WE
NEED YOU TO ACT AGAIN before Thursday.

First, click on the link below to fax your U.S. representative.
Tell him or her to oppose H.R. 1119.
http://www.unionvoice.org/campaign/o...ne5/w3ddafjxw7

Then, click on the link below to ask your friends, family
and co-workers to send their fax to Congress. The more
people who take action, the better chance we have of winning.
http://www.unionvoice.org/campaign/o...ard/w3ddafjxw7

This congressional attack on overtime is just one part
of a two-pronged assault on workers' paychecks. In addition
to this legislation, the Bush administration is pushing
for new rules to take away overtime pay that could go
into effect as soon as September of this year. The combination
of these changes with congressional legislation, discussed
above, would push overtime protections back 70 years and
turn them into meaningless "suggestions" instead of laws
employers must obey.

And, new analysis shows millions will lose overtime pay,
including firefighters, police officers, nurses, retail
clerks, certain medical technicians, military reservists,
tech workers and many, many more.

>From now until June 30, the U.S. Department of Labor is
accepting public comments on the proposal to take away
overtime pay, reduce overtime protections and cut the
take-home pay of millions of America's workers. You can
easily submit your letter of opposition right now by clicking
on the link below. A copy also will be sent to President
Bush.
http://www.unionvoice.org/campaign/o...dol/w3ddafjxw7

Overtime pay makes up about one-fourth of the average
weekly earnings of workers who receive it. That is an
average pay cut of $161 a week and can add up to thousands
of dollars a year. Can you imagine the government cutting
the pay of a firefighter by thousands of dollars per year?
How much would you lose? These overtime pay changes are
like a giant new tax on working families by a president
who, at the same time, works hard to give tax breaks to
millionaires.

Please act today.

You libs, can't you read between the lines? This is a slanted article. If you read this, and realize how slanted it is, then you will know to do your own research.

I read the bill, and I can't say weather I agree, or disagree with it.

Actually, I disagree with it, but I just did not appreciate the a-typical slam on the GOP and the President. This is propably proposed by some bible belt ultra conservative big business oriented knee-jerk Republican...I am sure that it will not pass anyway.

Oh and Miami, you know that the Liberal whackos are here in the bay...we do not need to convince the likes of Nancy Ug-lossi that she should vote this down. You are preaching to the choir dude!

You should try to lobby some of the more, normal shall we say, areas of America!

Actually, I'd say it's more like a Wal-Mart type corporation wanting to be able to give people 12 hours shifts at no extra cost. Labor unions wil definitely kill this one.

I've been both an employer and employee in my career, and can vouch for fairness to both sides.

As an employer, I couldn't ethically shaft my employees out of OT, especially with comp-time, and then direct them about when it can be used....so I feel that a law allowing employers to do so is wrong. OT hours aren't paid at an employers discretion...

OT is a sensitive issue, and personally I have worked a lot of it.

I was pissed-off when, a couple years ago (while I was still an employer, btw) they changed the rules and made OT only hours greater than 40/week, rather than over 8hrs/day OR more than 40hrs./week.

I still paid my staff OT for hours over 8/day, when they were PT and didn't even get up to 40hrs./week.

I've seen interviews with WalMart Employees where they were pressured to sign off the time clock and continue to work...so anyone calling me out as a Lib on this issue can take a big fat lick of my ballsssack...

Politics?

Bush can kiss my ****.

The Fed. Govt. can stay the hell outta Cali.

All of you Bush/America haters!

He is the best option that we had. And I would rather the Feds regulated business in Cali, and not Cali. Look at what our LIBERAL state assembley/senate/governor are doing to our business and jobs with their god damned tax and spend initiatives.

Stop wasting money on bums and non-working mother fockers...cut the social programs!

The US was not meant to be a socialist state. It is getting to the point where you can't even call it a capitilastic democracy anymore.

I just want to go to an Island somewhere in the South Pacific, and never worry about this crap ever again.

Would you guys rather that idiot, tree hugging, America hating Al Gore be running this country? Or better yet, how about the focking ***got loving Hillary Clinton?

To hell with tax and spend. To hell with liberalism...to hell with *liberal* Democrats (I actually am fond of the moderates like Liberman and Gephardt).

I grew up in an affluent Democratic family with a Dyke Aunt and her butch that likes to come to every family event and preach about environmental issues that she knows nothing about except for what the Green party propaganda machine has put out. I am so sick of god damned Bush hating liberals.

I am of the firm belief that extreme liberalism is not a political view, but rather a mental disorder. It is a sickness. They are so out of touch with reality that it isn't even a joke.

same here... but the company still provides OT to salary workers when manager approves. In my company a lot of people would work OT without getting OT pay. But we get a lot of slack in our working schedule.
