Unhappy Gotta let go of her...

I got my car (1999 Subaru Legacy Outback Limited wagon) checked at AutoHQ and I had more issues than I thought. Basically, it's a massive heaping waste of money to repair since nearly every mechanical thing on my car is either partially ****ed or totally fubar'd.

What's the best way to get rid of my car? As in, what can get me the most money out of it in a relatively short amount of time (too bad I can't sell all the parts individually)?

I'm debating whether I should sell it to those companies that buy junk cars, or should I just sell it? I really don't know what I'm doing and would love some good advice.

I know the state will retire any vehicle with valid registration for a certain amount of time. 1000$ or 1500$ and they dont need everything on the vehicle so you can sell certain parts like lights, windows, seats, exhaust and what not.

if it still runs okay go trade it in on a new car. Seriously, they're just going to dealer auction it anyways!

Sadly, it's not exactly "okay", the engine is pretty much destined to blow up. Something to do with rod knock or something.

If you really like the vehicle and its mechanically failing. I would say go and find another used engine and or transmission for cheap and replace it.

That's your outback there on the michelins. Sorry to hear that man! I was there when Kevin started it up and it didn't sound very great at all.

Yesh, the el-cheapo Michelins (read: BFGoodrich Premier Touring).

I REALLY REALLY love it but I know damn well it's just not worth it. Dropping in a used engine and tranny aren't much of an option since the EJ25D is an awesomely-fun motor riddled with engineering flaws, and just would be expensive to do a swap in general.

I was hoping (read: in total denial) it would be a loose spark plug making the noise, but it sounds so horrible, now I know it's pretty much a ****ed engine

Keep in mind there is a difference of what is needed. And what is an up sell. You car may not need everything. What was wrong with it?
