yah, i guess it depend on what road you where on when speeding. 71 on 280 in the hills is not even at the speed of traffic during commute, but on 101 cutting in and out traffic is a different story.
Its all about your speeds safety vs the conditions, I always drive 75mph on 280 unless foggy or rain, it's just not an unsafe speed. The cops know this 2, cause I drive by the same cops every night with them speed gunning me and never have had a problem.
It's probably just comes down to this cop has to work sat, and is taking that out on shiny cars with big wings.

I'm sorry... no i'm not. speeding in front of any law enforcement is asking for a ticket. you're breaking the "Law". unless you are law enforcement you can't do things like 80mph in a 65pmh.

That being said, I got a ticket doing 85 up 280 in redwood city. bike cop that I just didn't see and wasn't fully paying attention on an empty highway as well.
I fought the ticket by written declaration and got my $300 back. simply wrote "i'm not guilty. if the court does not find in my favor I request a reduction in fine and traffic school.". might work might not considering you talked back to law enforcement. If I were him I would have had some choice words for you.

take it as a lesson learned that never assume breaking any law is ok. you gotta pay to play.

Yeah, if I were the CHP his ticket would be sitting on top of my desk with a big red flag on it, making sure he gets screwed no matter how he tries to deal with the ticket.

but i wasn't doing 85, i was doing 75. Yes it sucks, yes its unfair. You guys can flame me all you want for complaining, but if the shoe was on the other foot you know you would be griping about it.
My main agreement here, is that my punishment will not be suited to my crime due to a higher speed ticket, that I was just not going.

My comments aren't about whether or not you were going 85. Please read, I said to do a written declaration and state that you were going 75. My comments were in regard to you're little remark to the cop. Definitely NOT the way to make the situation easier for you.

and to top it off i just realized he gave me a ticket for 22349(b)

which is speeding greater then posted speed on a non-divided highway, and 280 at that point is a divided highway.

So why don't you get to work drafting your written declaration instead of complaining?

Bottom line 75 in a 65 is a small ticket. 85 puts you over more than 15. Larger ticket. Fight it. Be honest... don't even address or attack the officer. That will turn the judge off.

yeah ticketassasin.com is your friend, also get a V1 if you drive the 280 as much as I do, and I always set my cruise for 70, 5 overs no prob but 10 over is really pushing it,
