Cool Got my first speeding ticket since I was 18!

Well in case you drive 85 south in the mornings there is a cop who sits between De anza and saratoga Ave. and pulls people over every day. Just a heads up.

I was doing 80 in a 65. I have no idea how much it will cost, but I am cool with it. I was on auto pilot and not paying attention. I have seen him pulling people over for over 8 months now, and why I got caught is still a mystery.. I should have been more awake. LOL I don't have a beef with getting the ticket, as I really was speeding. He didn't give me a lecture, but just told me straight away that he pulled me over for my speed, and wrote me up. I was only late to work by 10 minutes if there is a good side to the story.
He also wrote me up for having no front license plate.
SOOOOO.....

My question is this:
I have never had a front license plate. The gromets or what ever that sticks in the front bumper never came with the car. Does anyone know where to get these?
I am guessing Subaru sells them, but do they need to provide them by law. I am sure it is less that $20.00 but honestly that can go towards paying my traffic school and the $10.00 for the fix it ticket. Should I be able to request them from Subaru at no charge, as I never got them when I purchased the car?
Any info would be helpful thanks..

for the front license plate thingers.... you can try... but i had no luck (but then again.. i went to stevens creek subaru). i ended up just drilling directly into my bumper.

check around w/ people's rides cuz many of them have ingenius front plate holders.

Yeah I called Redwood city and they said it just uses sheet metal screws into the bumper no gromets! That sounds weird, but he says they can grab some from their parts department no charge.
I already have large holes but just the foam behind it. It is weird since I would figure they would have something there to hold the screws. I remember when I first got it it was weird.

By law all new cars are required to have them already. If you bought the car without them, I would go to the dealership and raise hell to get them for free. Also, if you got a ticket for no front plate let them know that.

Yeah I will drop by Stevens Creek today. There are already holes driled in the front for a license plate on the 05 STi but there should be a gromet or dibble, like you use with screws into dry wall to hold it. The holes are much larger than the screws or holes in the license plate itself.
I will see what I can come up with...

HAHAHA Thanks Rue.. You know I honestly asked the guy how fast I was going because I was on auto pilot and just wasn't looking. Kinda stinks getting a ticket, but I haven't had one since I was 18, and I am 34 now. I did have a fix it ticket back in 98 for a burned out brake light but that was it. I feel more stupid than anything else, the guy is no my way to work every day.. LOL Guess it was just my turn.. hahahaha!!! My wife won't be happy about it though..

As far as Steven's Creek I am almost afraid to go there. I was lookng at the holes and with out some sort of gromet I can't see how it would stay, i.e. the holes are bigger than the license plate holes. I was really looking for a part number or something so I can reference it and not waist my time at any dealership.
I can't see where they wouldn't have it since they clearly have a place designated for the license plate on the front of the car.

I know for the '02 WRX there are holes but they're aligned for a JDM plate. However, there are dimples in the bumper which show you where you need to put some self tapping screws for a USDM plate.

Just out of curiosity do you have any mods that attract any extra attention to your car? I've just been lucky and haven't gotten ticketed for my no front plate. I didn't even get pulled over when my plates got stolen and I was driving w/ no plates for a week. haha

Other than debadging since some kid really wanted my STi logo so he used a screw driver to get it off! No MODS HERE.. I finished the job right and minus a little more polishing and touchup on the paint where he scratched it, it looks fine.
I do want to get a new cat back exhaust, long intake air filter, bigger vavles and a COBB pro tune, but other than that I like her just the way she is!! Oh I need better brake pads too. I figure I will do that when I get new tires, which will be right around the 25K mark based on the ware I see now at 15K.
You are correct on the plate though. I confirmed it through two Subaru dealers as well. You basically have to drill the holes where the dimples are and then attach with sheet metal screws. I am going to pick up the screws, and get it done. It really doesn't matter to me either way honestly, plate or none. I just don't like drilling into my bumper but oh well...
Like I said earlier, I see the cop who sits there every day, and hands out tickets. I have seen him there for over a year. I was just not paying attention and got nailed. Luckly my ticket minus the fix-it and traffic school is around $99.00. I lucked out..
In case any of you are wondering here are the "BAIL OUT" rates for Santa clara County. This includes the State Penalty Assesment, County penalty, DNA Penalty, Court Facility Assesment, and 20% Surcharge. Geez any more things they want to add on!!! Not sure if there are any other fees.
MPH Over Speed Limit:
1 - 15 $99.00
16 - 25 $175.00
26 and above $350.00
This is for infraction 22349 of the vehicle violation. If you are in excess of twice the legal posted speed limit they can also put on wreckless driving, exhibition of speed, excessive speed etc which bassically means you are screwed.
If you are in a construction zone on a highway, it is really bad:
1 - 15 $210.00
16 - 25 $309.00
26 and up $484.00

Hope this helps...
