Got to give a speech for school, any ideas what i could say?
Hey, i have to give a perswasive speech for school and im curious if you guys got any ideas what mine could be about? Im not asking for you to do it just wondering if you got any better ideas then me. i was thinking something about the emissions law in Cali but the class will probably get a little bored, then again i would think that would be better then a speech on why basketball is so great... Its not for a while, but by friday i need to know what my topic is. If any of you got any ideas please post them up.
Thank ya much

When I was in school someone did a persuasive speech on choosing turbos over superchargers. It was boring as hell for nearly everyone. At the time I wasn't into cars and neither was anyone else.
I'd suggest that you pick a topic that everyone is familiar with. This will make your job a lot easier.
IMO, it is best to pick a topic that makes the audience feel like a good person for siding with you. If they have to bend their moral standards to agree, then you might be persuasive but you probably won't get the best grade. As an example, if you convince everyone to support euthanasia they will probably still have nagging doubts. However, if you convince them to use alternative energy and drive hybrid vehicles, they will feel like enlightened progressive reformers and your speech will enable them to feel good about agreeing with you. This is an easier way to get a good grade.

Persuasive speeches need to persuade. You need to have a stance on something and persuade others to agree.
"Philosophy" is not a topic for persuasive speech. Same for "smog laws".
"The US should create tougher smog laws" would be a topic for a persuasive speech.
It is very important that you understand the difference before you set out.
Also, if you try to persuade people to lift restrictions on smog, you will be doing what I suggested you avoid -- you'd be making people who side with you feel bad about themselves for choosing to pollute and be dirty. You will have a more difficult time persuading anybody, and some people won't be persuaded under any circumstances. If that person is your teacher, then you don't get a good grade.

Meh - depends on your teacher. I used to come up with crazy speeches all the time. Long time ago in 10th grade, we read Huck Finn, and I had to make a speech about it. I wont on and on about how Jim was a bad influence on Huck (the point of the Huck Finn story is that Jim is a VERY good influence on Huck). It was ridiculous, but I backewd it up with quotes taken completely out of context.
Have some fun, say something silly. As long as you can back it up, you will get a decent grade.

What class? Type of teacher? Time alotted?? ...
You can cover anything from health issues to politics... it all depends on what the rest of the class talks about before/after/during class I hope that helps a bit..

maybe i could do soemthing about how people need to pay more attention while driving, like only use the left lane if you are going fast and or passing someone, and if your going slow get over for a faster car, or just stay in the right lane. This is for a HS english class, its not college so there not going to be to hard on grading. Its only suppose to be about 8 minutes, and like i said its a Hs school so there will be someone who does something on basketball or something...

Ok then you might want to talk about what you will be doing this summer (Productive Vs For Fun) Aka: helping out the community vs. Getting on your SUBY and driving like there is no TOMORROW.. lol

You could discuss the impact of the recently declared cease-fire in the Middle East and its impacts on the global community.
