Permanent shaded tint on the front sides isn't legal in California, period. There is a clear, UV-blocking film that is legal in CA if you want it. Omega does that stuff, too.
They can do 5, 20, 35 and 50% LT tint shades in whatever combination you want. Vincent's prices are very generous, but might vary depending on the curvature of your rear window. I would just call and talk to Vincent directly like I did today. He's very friendly and helpful.

South Valley Auto Glass is the best in San Jose.
Joe runs the shop and he is one nicest guys I know.
It's where I got my wrx wagon tinted, and my buddy got his new protege 5 tinted there as well.
Super good quality and a great price. What more could you ask for?
The ph# is 408.269.5232
Ask for Joe.
Tell him Josh from Scotland Yard refered you.
He will hook you up.

I went to see Vincent at Omega Tintwerks today. He did a great job on my Jetta. He pays great attention to the little details. You don't find this kind of care just anywhere. His prices are very generous given the quality of his work.
My car is filthy right now. I'll post some pictures once I get her cleaned up.

Great service, great tint job, lifetime quality and killer price..can't beat that! Plus a new friend! Totally recommend them.

Yup, I just took my sister out to Omega Tintwerks on Monday of this week. She got 35% on all 7 windows of her Legacy GT wagon. He did a fantastic job and I would take any other car I had to him. Vincent is the man. The shop even has a PS2 so you can chill while he's working on the car. Definitely a positive experience.

Have you driven the car at night with tint? I was considering 5% in the rear until driving around at night. I thihnk 20% rear is the limit for me if I still want to be able to park in dark areas! 20%/35%/50% works for me, even if it is a bit on the light side.

maybe you are right..5% might be too dark!

I guess it's best to think about the tint collectively. Mine is pretty light up front and reasonably light on the sides, so overall it *all* seems lighter. If all the rest of your tint is darker it's going to make the whole inside of the car seem darker. But when parking you're just looking straight out the back, so if it's 5% it's going to be pretty darn dark. Just something to think about before you give up the 20%.

true....you have a good point.
Question..you know all those Vans and SUV's you see with rather dark rear tints...are those <=10%?
Another reason I was thinking about the darker tint is that I race MTB's and constantly have rig in the hatchback and was thinking the dark tints would add some security.
Adam, would you happen to have a pic of your car that you could either PM me or e-mail me at luc @ teamplanetx.com
cheers.
