The BEST traditional sushi restaurant I've been to has to be my dad's friends shop. It's owned by him and his wife, so it's a very small mom n pop kinda place. Gets insanely busy during lunch hour, so it's better to go for dinner. I know I get bigger cuts of fish cuz my dad knows Kimura-san (the sushi chef) but the quality is the best. Oh yeah, if you just want sushi, sit at the bar and get to know Kimura-san and his wife, they're really cool people.

The reason why I say best traditional, is because Sasabune in Hawaii has more sauce flavored sushi, that I'd put as #1 sushi if it's not traditional.

Miyaki in Palo alto (off University) is CHEAP and GOOD
Sono in Downtown mountain view (off Castro) is expensive and good
Satsuma in Mountain view (off El Camino, near 85 on ramp) is cheap and edible - but they have an "All you can eat" sushi deal on sundays.

tonight my girlfriend and i just ate at Barracuda at the serramonte mall next to elephant bar. the food was great as well as the atmosphere. the sushi chefs we're really friendly because they've been drinking. but i bought them a sake bomb each, then they gave me one too. later they just gave me some free sushi and dessert. it was really good, if you like spicy then i recomend the volcano roll. its a bit pricey though, but i thought it was totally worth it.
