verc- I bought a few of the Redburst Rogue starter 3/4 size guitar that you linked (1st link above). They were xmas gifts and I just bought too many. I can't comment on how it plays b/c I don't play.

If you plan on ditching it then this may be the best economical way. Anyway, one for sale (it's brand new) I'll sell it to you for $30.

if you're serious about picking up guitar i suggest learning piano first(makes learning music easier IMO). but if you're serious about learning guitar and buying one get one you will enjoy playing.... seriously.
Thanks for all the input, you have a lot of experience. I do have ~15 years of piano instruction (being a standard asian person), I'm hoping that will enable me to learn w/ more autonomy and check up on an instructor once in a while to fine tune things

I may take you up on the offer. Can you PM me w/ some details? Thanks

i got this : http://www.musiciansfriend.com/produ...tar?sku=515366 for my ex-gf. i just switched out her strings and it sounded tons better. enough for me to still serenade her and for her to learn.

it has nothing on my martin, but it stays in tune and isn't horribly built.

dude you will rip then... piano is where every musician should start, whether you're a drummer or guitarist. its the best place. that way you learn rhythm and music.

I have several no-name guitars found off ebay that RIP. They all cost less than $500 and they play and sound better than many $1500+ Les Paul, Strat, PRS or whatever. Honestly, most new big name instruments don/t impress me. But as long as the guitar is made with quality parts and assembled well, it can be setup well. My friend who has been playing and working on guitars for 40+ years is an Ebay madman, and the guitars he gets and sets up are incredible.
i 100% agree. i am talking about main stream brands like you mentioned.. there are some seriously amazing offbrand random guitars on ebay that are just plain amazing.. like i used to have a grecco.. and i swear i can't find a guitar as good as that.

Alright I'll definately be hitting y'all up once I learn how the fingers work and all.... I ended up buying the Rogue Dreadnaught off Musician's Friend. This place is near my hotel so I'll check them out for pointers http://fatsoundguitars.com/

I've been practicing for a bit (yeah that piano background seriously helps with the theory and reading notes) and for fun working on Sweet Home Alabama

I don't understand parts of these tabs http://www.911tabs.com/link/?1839097

like in the first couple stanzas

--0h2p0-2p0----------|
0h2----2-------------|

and

0h2p0--0h4p0--0h5p0----|

what does that funky thing mean to do?

Thanks guys

the h is hammer on. so hit the open string then just put your finger on the second fret without strumming again.

the p is a pull off. exact opposite of a hammer on.

good luck!
