Good roof racks for snowboards?

I'm looking into getting some roof racks for my wrx sedan because i'm tired of trying to fit boards through that little pass through hole in the rear seats.

So do you guys know of some good roof racks and places to buy them at here in the bay preferably in the east bay and peninsula? Thanks.

I have some parts for sale for a Thule roof rack. Let me know if you want to buy it. You'll basically will have to buy 2 cross bars and a snowboard/ski rack and locks if you want them secure.

Oh yeah, there's a sports rack in San Rafael if San Carlos is too far from V-town.

edit: Someone else is selling a complete thule roof rack on the classified forum.

There are also Sports Racks in Sunnyvale and out Campbell way.

I went with the Yakima rack and it works fine. The only gripe I have with it (and I believe the same is true of the Thule) is that where the rack's towers stand on the roof, they can cause a bit of scuffing. I got around this by sticking some clear protectant strip on the roof where the feet go.

Thanks for the input guys. I've checked out thule and yakima online and saw that there are different models? I dunno. I guess I'll go to sports rack and check it out and see what the difference is between the models.

Sell the snow board and get snowblades. No rack required, and you won't have to worry about your board getting ripped off.

i JUST bought my yakima rack on http://store.yahoo.com/orsracksdirect/index.html
the have 20% off all yakima stuff. probably one of the better prices you can find on new rack gear. so good luck. i've been looking for good prices for a while, and this is what i settled on. you're pretty hard pressed to find new gear for less than retail. i guess the stuff holds its value well.

sport rack rips. But first I'd try searching craigslist. I got a pretty good deal on my first set up there.

Yakima is definately the way to go...hands down.

I have 2 vipers and 2 copperheads for bikes and a Lift Ticket 6 for my boards. Pretty easy on and off. I've had it off for months because I got knee surgery so i didn't need it.

Definately get the wind screen..you'll be bummed if you don't.

I'd also suggest getting some clear tape....they come with some but use more..around the feet. It's difficult to get them to fit just right and not move around....on my civic I had scratched from the roof mounts and on my wagon I have scratches on the roof rails.

Definately go roof rack. Definately go yakima. Mine has been tested in the snow, dirt, rain. You name it...look at the photos in my gallery.... donuts. Shoot I've done over 120mph with two bikes on top.

Hope nobody rips off your snowboard while you are having dinner on the way home =(. Just kidding, but you have to try these things... they make going to tahoe way better.. unless there's a lot of deep powder.
