Good place to get a mountain bike?

I am looking for a bike right now. I would like to keep it under 2k if possible. I found a Cannondale Prophet I like, but not sure if it's a great price. I have ridden a Specialized FSR, Ellsworth and now the Prophet. Any places with great prices?

Supergo opened a store in Redwood City about a year ago.

(oh yeah, run over to Tri-City and see what they have left)

gotta narrow down which bike you're looking for first!

for that price, i assume you're interested in full suspension? how much travel? which suspension design?

Specialized's FSR, Ellsworth's horst-linkage, Turner's (new) VPP, Intense' EVP, and SC's VPP are my favorites. Unfortunately, most of these bikes will run you over $2k.

Maybe an SC Superlight built with XT? If you're looking for Santa Cruz bikes, I recommend Reed's Cyclery in San Jose. Talk to Dave (the mechanic there) and see if he can help. He's a WRX owner too.

That place has been cleaned out!

Noone told me of their going out of business sale and I missed most of the good stuff.

Trail Head Cyclery in San Jose.

Awesome people and owner, they are all die hard riders and are all about getting you the right bike for you, not for their sales.

What kind of bike are you looking for? XC, DH, 4x/slalom, urban, dirtjump? I've got an 2005 enduro sx for sale that i'll let go for a sweet deal.

If your looking for a new ride, it's pretty hard to stay under 2 grand. Anyhow, trailhead is a good shop, evolution bike shop in cupertino, woodside bikeshop...just to name a few. if your looking to order online checkout www.go-ride.com

I know, I missed it all also . I'm more sad that it's gone.

I know your sentiments exactly. Where are we supposed to go for our sports gear now that Tri-City is gone? I'm going to miss the days of 40% off of my snowboarding equipment.

I bought my Santa Cruz Superlight @ Pacific Bikes in the city. Those guys had great service - was really impressed. Spent just about 2K. If you are looking to drops and what not, its the wrong bike for you (only about 4" of travel in the rear), but it truly is a superlight full-sus. As a former hardtail racer, I wanted a decent full-sus bike without the weight.

Hey! when youre down here for the Laguna Seca event you can check out my Santa Cruz Superlight (I think thats what it is). it was over 2k when I got it years ago, but I'll sell it for a lot less. if you want to check it out youre welcome to. I've been planning on putting it on ebay, but I've been too lazy

Car Info: I got a couple :)
I have a freeride Specialized big hit expert with lots of goodies and custom one off stuff just collecting dust in my garage.

Specs on the frame is, small 17". Travel on the rear shock with auto lock out tech ( 2006 newest release not yet in stores readily available, new set never trailed yet. I give you the brand on email cant post it) is 8.5" and we custom fitted that and fronts are Mar. Bomber Jr. T's with over 10". This is worth and I spent over $4,000. I sell it to you for $2,000 o.b.o. cash.

What you need? coz I have an Intense I also put together for XC.

Sun Bike Shop in Milpitas - best bike shop in the Bay Area IMO.

Thanks for the replies!! I think I have narrowed it down to a Prophet 600 or 800 unless I can find a deal on a used bike first. I found a 600 for around $1400 yesterday in SF and that sounds like the winner to me. Avid mech discs and the lefty is sweet. I rode the Stumpjumper Comp ('05 model) and I liked it but I felt the FSR had better shocks while I liked everything else better about the Prophet. I also like the simplicity of the swingarm. We'll see.

Gino - I need a large bike - at least an 18.5" as far as I can tell. That bike sounds pretty awesome though!

I am in SJ right now and work in foster city. The dumb part is I need to get a car I can carry a bike with... My RS won't cut it. Looking for an OBS or a Legacy for my g/f that will also be the bike car. I would go pretty far for a deal, but I would have to find a way to carry the bike.

jac -let me know if you need help picking a bike up, I don't have a bike rack, but I can fit 2 bikes in the back of my wagon without the front wheels on.
