So assuming I work for an Internet provider and it's my job to be online, is this still a waste of time and money? I mean with 3 computers and 4 monitors isn't there enough multitasking space for a small browser window for i-club?
I understand where your coming from, in construction you need your full attention on the job in front of you or you're gonna nail gun your hand to a board or fall onto some exposed rebar or something. That being said, there are other jobs out there where doing 4-5 things at once is acceptable if not required.
This isn't an attack against you, I just enjoy playing devils advocate when the opportunity presents itself.

Bwaaaahahahaha... I am glad I never had a boss like you say you would be. I work sorta construction now (assembling a museum and setting up displays) so there is no time to stand around unless the dudes are on break - there's no time for someone to do anything but work and I always have a job for someone. 6 months ago I was in charge of 12 large IDC sites and a good portion of my time was spent waiting for servers to do stuff, on the phone with providers, waiting for a team of people to fix something, spending months out of the country, etc. You just have to understand that some jobs are different, and some not only have time for things like this but encourage it.

well, i still don't like the fact that so many people have the chance to sit around and post on sites that clearly aren't work related. Or maybe i'm just jealous. In all the places i've worked i've never had the opportunity to sit around and be on line.

and thanks sigma pi for the corrections

1) yes

2) I work from home, so pretty much I'm already at work when I wake up in the morning. So probably the first thing I do is use the toilet and brush my teeth.

3) graphic designer

4) '03 wagon with minor mods

Yep that's just jealousy. No worries. In my last job, I also spent a great portion of my time driving around the Bay like a madman in my Suby. I was getting my regular salary plus a per mile pay as well. I got to cruise in my car, listen to my music and eat at restaurants people back at the office couldn't make it to. Making any appointment anywhere was never a problem. Much better than spending time on i-club. Part of choosing the right job is also choosing the benefits you want with it.
