Good curry house???

Can anybody recommend a good indian restaurant that's not in the city????

I've been to a few good ones in SF, but I was looking for a nice one to take the missus on her birthday that's on the peninsula, but not in the city.

TIA

Or you can make curry yourself and have a romatic dinner at home. I have a couple good curry recipes and can explain how to make each.

Thanks, I was hoping for few recommendations from curry fans, I would cook myself but I'm lousy in the kitchen and there are a few of us going out for her birthday. She loves indian food.

Amber in Mountain View is the best, but also a few more $$s.
******* in Menlo Park is also good, and also $$s
I've had lunch at Shiva's in Mountain View and that was really good. Maybe a tad cheaper than Amber?

Banjara in Sunnyvale is pretty decent for the money.

I have heard Amber in Santana row is also good, but is slightly more fusion.

If you wanna try something a little different, go to Dasaprakash in Santa Clara. They're one of the few south Indian places in the Bay Area. Almost all of the Indian places around here are usually more northern Indian or Pakistani.

I haven't had a decent ruby for ages....

There are a couple of places in the Industrial area of Hayward, I would not want to take the Mrs. there for her birthday but they make decent food.

Haha, asking a Brit for a good Indian place is like asking an American where's a good pizza place since that type of cuisine's pretty darn popular in the UK. Which ones in particular off Industrial are good?

Star of India in Petaluma on Mcdowell. I thought the one on 4th street is middle eastern food not Indian. It's good though.

Curry House--next to the Kinokuniya Bookstore w/the Option & JDM mags

Curry House--on La Cienaga & same block as the Stinking Rose

Curry House--in Torrance/Gardena

They're not in THE city, but they are in SoCal

Seriously those Curry House joints are goooooooood. I've been wondering when they were gonna make it up here. All the Boba + Asian cafes did.

Hahaha, his post was about Indian places, not the Curry House (Japanese curry) franchise. I've been to a Curry House location before when I was in So Cal and it was damn good. Curry katsu, some rice, and pickled ginger and I'm SET.
