I washed my car today, and rite when i put it in the sun.. SWIRLMARKS alllllllll over.. i use meguirs scratchx to try and remove but they still are there. does anyone use a buffer to buff their car? cuz i heard if you know how to use a buffer properly it's one of the best ways to get rid of paint oxidation and swirl marks.

might as well just do it by hand if your going to go cheap and buy something from wal-mart. Get a nice porter cable and you will be happy with the results. My friend has one and when hes done the cars look amazing.

yeah I don't recommend learning to machine buff on your own car.
I would definately have someone else take care of it.
There are couple of people on this board that do this stuff.
Good luck with it!

I detailed cars for 5 years. Buffing is not too difficult, but it definately makes a difference what you use. I recommend using a wool pad for heavy scratches with a medium compound or cutter, then you move to a black foam pad with 3M polish. This will give you a mirror finish- just be carefull with the wool pad. Stay away from corners, and never push down on the buffer. Wool can burn the paint. Foam won't burn. I suggest using a variable speed buffer, DeWalt, Makita, or other good name brand buffers. You can get a velcro backed buffer, then buy velcro pads that are great for quick changing. For chemicals- anything you can buy over the counter is crap- everything is "watered down" for safety and profit. I use a distributor called "Production Chemicals". They are pretty inexpensive and you get lots more. If you are on the peninsula, the dealers name is Bryan, and his phone number is 650 333 8777. He delivers all day to dealerships and detail shops, so you can meet up with him at nearby one. If you decide to call him, tell him Dan Pina sent you.
Good luck!
