good banks?

Okay so I'm looking to switch my banks and I'm wondering what banks do you guys recommend

I have Wells Fargo currently and just a few days ago I accidentally used the wrong payment method to pay for something on paypal, i used my bank account instead of my credit card. ( Dont flame me I was in a rush )

Well apparently paypal first asks the bank to see if there is money in the bank account and it takes 3-5 days to process this, so I say okay I have time to call the bank to cancel the payment since I have nothing in my bank account since my check hadn't cleared yet. I call WF and they said it would be 29 dollars to stop the payment from going through (overdraft fee is 35) and I wouldn't be able to use paypal for 6 months thru my bank account. They should do the stop payments for free !

Long story short I got stuck with an overdraft fee and paypal wouldn't even do anything either. All wells fargo said was is there anyway you can put money into the bank? ......

I have Patelco but I don't really want to use their checkings/savings because its really inconvenient. any recommendations?

Damn this is a hit or miss kinda thing and it depends. Most banks are all FDIC (which obviously means owned by govt) bad it's owned by our govt, good that you'll get guaranteed money.

I think most banks are all the same either way with their customer service n' online free fees n' stuff like that.

I'd go chase for commercial banking.... and for credit unions.... i like where i work thank you very much. the perks are nice if u have DD set up. but the perks w/ chase are still kinda better than what i gotta offer.

If you search online, you can probably find that you can open a Chase free checking account with $100 deposit and direct deposit. In return, they'll give you some money (depends on the deal, but I've seen $50-$125). This'll come after a month or two though.

Should be enough to cover your fees from Patelco

Well what do you want?
Do you have savings?
Looking for high yield savings? If so hit up schawb for savings as for normal banking, I like bofa. they are everywhere and never have had a problem with them.

I use UBOC and love it. They bend over backwards for me every time I don't like something. I don't pay a dime in fees. That's my suggestion.

Banks are FDIC insured, but that doesn't mean they're owned by the government. There's a big difference.

+1 me too since 1998, and they have been great. No complaints ever.

Find a nice, local bank or credit union that will refund your foreign atm fees.

Support your local financial institution, stay away from the mega banks.

^^^ yeah this...course I work for a Credit Union too.

BTW, not sure what you meant about inconvenient. If you meant accessing your $$$, most Credit Unions are part of a network that let's you access your money w/ no surcharge from a different CU. Totally unlike the banks...

At my CU, with all the networks we're in with, you can access your funds at over 60,000 locations with no surcharge. Just a thought to reconsider your CU.

Let me know if you have CU questions.
