Hmmmm everyone goes for DWS?
I dont have my stocks any more but im picking up some RPF1s in a few weeks hopefully 18x9.5 +38 which will be my only set and every day set for every day driving. i go to tahoe a lot but not when the roads are covered in snow. i just want a nice beefy setup that runs nice. like i said i dont know anything about tires so im open to all opinions. thanks

I've used Conti DWS for the last 8 years, every Tahoe season, in both the old and new versions, on my Subaru WRX, my Mitsu Evo and now my Mitsu RA Sportback.
They rock. Never been stuck, never let me down. I actually have been using them year round on my RA Sportback and they aren't so bad in the dry either, obviously not a HP Summer tire but I don't drive like much of a jackass on the street anymore.

I had the DWS on my old prodrives, they were awesome, I went with a wider wheel and now I am using the Nitto Invo they seem to have better dry traction than my DWS did, still don't know what to say about snow on the new invo, but the DSW were awesome one of the best tires I purchased

The real thing you should ask is what kinda weather you will be using these tires in....if you don't really go to tahoe during snow season you might just be better off with a summer set price wise, but if you are set on all seasons the DWS are nice.

My vote is for the Bridgestone Potenza RE970 pole positions. Havent got to drive them on snow yet but wet is unbelievable and dry just as impressive. Pretty quite tire too.
I run the 245/45/17 on 2011 OEM WRX wheels.
Bridgestone Potenza RE970AS Pole Position
tire comparison: bridgestone and continental - NASIOC

I go up to Tahoe usually 10+ times during ski/snowboard season, and have zero complaints on the two all-season tires I've used -- Pirelli PZero Nero M+S on my previous car, and currently have Continental DWS on my WRX.
I guess the question for you is..... are you really set on bringing your car up to Tahoe during the snow season?
- Your WRX is quite low, hopefully you won't be scraping everywhere.
- Ride quality - are you also OK with driving 4+ hours on your coilovers and 18" wheels?
- What about passengers? 2-5 adults and their stuff = that's a lot of weight - hopefully your wheels have a very good offset so the tires will always clear your fenders.
Ideally, just get a separate set of wheels and tires for Tahoe. This way you can get some stockers with TPMS, and stock-sized tires. However, not everyone has storage space to spare -- that's why I run all-season tires all year, until I can clear out some storage space for a set of summers
