Unhappy Gnarly Santa Cruz Fire...

I hope everyone here is safe. Looks pretty big and tough to fight with the terrain.

I think it is just a couple sparse mountain cabins and mansions out there, good its not heavily populated. I did read that one structure was burned.

Yeah the wind is changing directions and a LOT of people and homes are in danger. Over 20 at the moment. More soon enough. I had ash hitting my car on 129. Watsonville is orange from the smoke. It's thick and heavy.

My coworkers folks live up on the ridge there and she's freaking and my folks live in corralitos and I can't get a hold of them.

It's a pretty beefy fire and the winds today are HUGE. I just hope it backs up in to stuff it's already burned so the fire department can get one up on it.

I saw video of a dude with his hose watering down his house and yard and the fire was maybe 25 feet from his house. I hope he got out alright.

It's snowing in Watsonville!

Fire was reported just before 5:30 AM

By about 7:30 I heard on the police scanner was 300+ acres

By 9AM reports are saying 750-1000 acres.

Eureka Canyon Road is closed. My kid's school is in Corolitos, I'm almost expecting they will evacuate the school. If for no other reason than the smoke and ash.

Not a good day for a back road drive.

It's reporting over 2000 acres now. It's a pretty fast moving and big burning fire. It's an animal.

I still can't get a hold of my folks.

If anyone is out in the watsonville area can you let me know if the ash gets super gnarly. If it does I'm going home to get my dogs. I don't want them breathing all this crap. Not good for them.

Pretty sure this house is gone. I just saw another clip of the same area... house just up the ridge and the showed where the fire was and I didn't see the house anymore. I hope the guy got out.

What started this? Any word yet.

Think I'm gonna go get at the very least my younger dog. It might do more harm than good moving the older one. She's a basket case. Giver her a heart attack. I'll move her inside and set up a fan blowing out the window.

****...

thanks. I'll head out there in about 40 minutes.
