Eureka Canyon Road is closed. My kid's school is in Corolitos, I'm almost expecting they will evacuate the school. If for no other reason than the smoke and ash.

Not a good day for a back road drive.

Side note... saw you last friday with your kid in the pace car. You going this friday?

Yeah, I'm planning on it. Assuming the fire doesn't reach the beach by tomorrow. According to the promotor, he talked to CDF and they will be racing. Fairgrounds are opened up as an evac center, but shouldn't affect the speedway.

Also, if you're out on 129, I'm thinking ash shouldn't be too bad for you, the wind going a bit offshore today and smoke and ash is going over Watsonville toward Salinas/Monterey.

Gonna keep my eye on it for another hour then decide if I need to go get my boy. Figure better safe than sorry. He wouldn't leave me out there breathing death.

Channel 2 is reporting that a resident had a permit for burning leaves and stuff, and neighbors had been complaining because of the wind. No official report on whether this was the cause, so its just speculation.

If thats the case that guy must feel like ****. Everyone knows you don't do a controlled burn (permit or not) with as high of winds as we've been having

News site now says 3k acres too.

Just got back from getting my dog. Not to bad at my place. It's splitting the valley on both sides but one shift in the wind and it's on top of me in a big way. It's WAAAAY closer than I expected and WAAAAY worse. Watsonville is a mess. I smell like smoke. I have a sore throat. I'm very glad I got my dogs taken care of. My folks house is right in the smoke channel. It's orange at their house and very bad. The road is closed just on the other side of them. I saw maybe 30 horse trailers trying to get horses out. People on dirt bikes. Big trucks. It's a mad house in corralitos.

If this wind keeps up all night it could get really really bad. I really hope it flips on itself and brings the fog in tonight and pushes the fire back on top of itself so it has less fuel and they can get it knocked down. If it keeps pushing and tomorrow is anything like today it's gonna be right on top of 152 and pushing around the canyon right at my house. It's only a few miles away.

Yeah, I'm at work and my eyes are burning and I'm indoors.

Here at work we're on one side of the smoke plume and at home I'm kinda on the other but more in the middle. It's pretty much going right over the middle of Watsonville.

Went home earlier and closed up all the windows.

They just canceled school for PVUSD for tomorrow, in case you have kids. My son goes to school in Corrolitos and they evacuated them around noon. He was home safe at about 12:30.

Wind is blowing offshore, which isn't really typical, so San Jose is clear for now. Tonight the wind will shift. You'll be smoky in the morning.

They're saying 3K acres burned so far, but that's been for the last hour or two. They say at least 10K acres before they think they can get a grip on it.
