I purchased my home 5 years ago this October. After taking ownership, I gutted the whole house and did a full remodel through out. Upon tearing up the downstairs kitchen subfloor, we discovered a set of bones belonging to a small animal. They were discarded in the back yard in a pile of soil. During construction, numerous friends working on the house heard something scampering up stairs. Every time we checked on the noise, we found nothing.
When I moved in downstairs, I would catch something out of the corner of my eye passing under the lights and it would vanish. It appeared gray and the size of a cat. This happen numerous time for months. Then one day, my physical therapist was making a home visit. She was stretching me out on the floor. She said that she didn't know that I had a cat. I said that I did not. (I was laying on my back on the floor with my eyes closed at this point) She then asked about neighbors cats and none of those matched this gray fluffy cat she was describing. I then responded that that was my ghost cat jokingly, and asked if it was still there. She said it was sittting there looking right at her. It eventually vanished.
A week later, I took its bones from the contruction debris pile in the back yard and burried them appropriately. I have not seen the ghost since. My girlfriend was the only one scared, just by the idea there was a ghost there. She loved cats, had one, but could not have it at my place because I am allergic. I guess it was my own way of having a cat for a while.

Well in the picture you can clear as day see a reflection of a woman sitting in a chair nitting with a lamp there..the whole 9. I said....so what...it's a reflection....figured maybe it was his wife or something...nope...he showed me a photo of what it looks like over there...there is no lamp...no chair....just a computer desk with a computer on it. WEIRD!!!!!!!!
I have my own story...whether I believe in ghosts or not is another question...seems as how I am a religious person you could say...
but when I was little my mom used to come in and tuck me in every night...she'd sit on my bed and talk to me then kiss me and leave. Well I was laying in bed looking toward the wall when I felt my mom sit on my bed. I said hi mommy and what not and the lady said I'm not your mom. So I sat turned around and sat up and looked at the woman. Blonde hair. red sweater. black skirt. She kept asking me to come with her and that it was ok. My mom would want me to. etc. ..etc..etc.
Finally my mom came in and asked me what was going on...I told her and she flipped. Next morning we talked about it and I described the woman again.
My aunt..her sister died at 33 of cancer. I never knew her. I described her in perfect detail...including her favorite outfit when she died.
To this day I honestly believe that if I had gone with her I'd be dead. Not sure if it was a ghost or some kind of imagination deal..but I was wide awake. I used to have these gnarly dreams when I was a kid that I was told could kill me. I learned how to control them....like a tv. Sounds weird but they tought me how to change the chanels..bad dream..just turn the chanel. Now...I don't dream. I turned the tv off in 1988.
bah..now I sound crazy. But it's a true story. If you knew my background you'd have a little clearer idea.

i believe that there is some sort of afterlife, and that your spirit is attached to your material body in some form, i just dont know how or in what form. they say that people who can see ghosts are especially clairvoyant and have a better understanding of how to see them, like you have to be ready to see ghosts or have gone through some traumatizing experience to be able to see them. my buddy's co-worher is able to see ghosts, but she supposedly had a near-death experience. maybe thats what tipped it off. the trauma from that really helped her expand her mind (?) iono. personally, im happy i dont see ghosts. i would flip out. but, working in science, i find it very interesting how powerful your mind could be. i equate it to being able to study and understand something that other dont, e.g. why certain people are good at electrical engineering versus being a writer. just different ways and levels of thinking unconventionally.

weird

my little cousin used to do this. She is the child of my cousin...few years older than I...who is the daughter of the woman I saw on my bed.
Strangely enough...when she was able to....Modesty (my little cousin) described the same image I saw. my aunt....her grandmother.

Good thread
As much as ghosts scare me, I am fascinated by them. A few years ago I was sitting in the canyon on the Dam right near my house when i looked over to the hill on the other side, it wasn't more than 200 feet away, no trees, just tall grass. I was talking on my phone as I saw a figure, clear as day appear. It just appeared out of no where, running, until it dissapeared a few seconds later, into thin air. There was nothing it could have hid behind, I was sure of what i saw. It just appeared as a dark figure, definitly wasn't an animal. Right when i saw it I ran all the way home.
Another time i was sitting on my couch in the TV room with two of my friends. I was sitting on the side with the back porch right behind me, with my friends facing me. All of a sudden both of them went still with thier eyes wide open. They slowly kind of looked at each other and said "Did you see that?" They discribed it as some figure just sitting outside the door (glass door) then just dissapearing.
There's been many other times when wierd things have happened in my house, doos open and close, faucets turn on, etc. There was one time when i was lying in my bed and it felt like a hand grabbed my leg. It freaked me out.

I had an experience what I would call out of the ordinary. About 2 years ago when my gramma passed while we were driving home from a wedding around 11:30 PM. As we passed the Chinese cemetery my wife's window rolled down. She's facing me and I had both hands on the wheel. She then asked me why I did that for since it was foggy and cold out and both my kids were in the back seat. She then saw both my hands were on the wheel. We just looked at each other and never spoke about it again.

wrexr's cat ghost story is pretty
too, but sounded a little less freaky.fortunately, i haven't had any experiences w/ghosts. I believe that everyone has a spirit that passes on somewhere after they die. It seems like the ones that have troubled lives and especially traumatic experiences close to their deaths are the ones that linger around and "haunt" people (for lack of a better word).
i used to work at Children's Hospital (now California Pacific) in SF, and supposedly there are ghosts in there. (lots of hospitals seem to be haunted) I've never seen them, but a couple of my friends have. Both of them (on separate occasions) saw the ghost of a little girl in the administrative conference room upstairs. My friends were cleaning up after hospital hours, and one said the ghost came into the room, stared at him and left. The other guy said the ghost passed in front of him as he exited the conference room and disappeared down the hall. I wasn't working either time, but my other co-workers said both of my friends were pale and shaking when they came back downstairs.
i've been in the same conference room before (after my friends' incidents), but I didn't see anything. I didn't find out about their experiences until afterwards because they didn't want to tell me beforehand. Neither of them wanted to go up there again, so they had me go.....some ''friends!?"

my ghost story:
in 1996, i worked for FEMA (region 9) for a few months. this was back when they were "housed" at the presidio (buildings 102-105).
anyways, i was in 103, and was told to so something to the piles and piles of computers stored in the 3rd floor.
now remember, these were army barracks type buildings and the top floors were just one big rectangular rooms.
anyways, on the long sides were a bunch of windows. so to provide cross air flow i opened one on each side.
now these windows open from the top. the hinges are at the bottom. so they swing downward. add the old age (these buildings are historical landmarks so they are protected and stuff) and all of the paint, it was hard to open and close these windows.
so i continue to work. next thing i know, i heard one window shut LOUDLY.., then the other!!!!!
at first i thought i was some of the people playing jokes on me. then a few moments passed and i heard or see NO ONE... a few more moments then i got the tingly feeling. like OH <BLEEP>!!!!!!!!
i ran down towards the second floor (back then, calif OES were there, FEMA has the first floor) and asked of they saw anyone running down the stairs.
they said no and i started to joke that there were ghosts up there.
one of them dragged me to the front of the building where a historical plaque was mounted. in it, it says that most of the presidio (or the building i was in) was built over indian (IIRC) burial grounds...
i never worked up there ALONE since...

btw, i'm pretty sure a lot of you have experienced "sleep paralysis," which is supposedly caused by a ghost sitting on you. (according to a couple of ghost sighting sites, including www.theShadowlands.net)
I've had that a few times before, and it's really weird. You think you're dreaming, then you wake up with your eyes open, but you can't move, talk or make ANY sounds. It's pretty freaky, but it's always happened when I was stressed out or sick, so I figured it was a physiological thing.

I had that a few times.. but now when I get those.. I know what's going on and I always seem to think, "Aahh damn it! it's one of those dreams again where I can't move or wake up." and then I try to wake myself up and stuff. it's annoying because for one, why the hell can't I talk!? or if I can talk, i can't make a word to sound like anything.. it's always hard to say something in those dreams and trying to wake yourself up.

Btw, looks like the "Happiest Place on Earth" might also be one of the scariest! (I've always considered Vega$ the Happiest Place anyways!)
Taken from www.theShadowlands.net:
Disneyland - The Christmas Shop - Some of the stock crew has reported an strange feeling when alone stocking the store for the morning. There is an old photo from the 19th century of a young woman up on one of the shelves. It has been documented several different times that a stock person will noticed the photo frowning (her photo is taken with a straight face) at them along with a strange wind in the room.
Disneyland - Fire Station - some employees heard foot steps at 2nd floor at night and someone knocked the door. The 2nd floor is not open for public and it's been an empty room for several years.
Disneyland - Haunted Mansion - There are 3 spirits that are in the place all the time, elderly man (who died of a heart attack in Aug. of 1970 before there was a first aid station on the west side of the park), an elderly woman and a young man who has quite a sense of humor. There is also something nasty in the attic just before the omni-movers exit into the graveyard. Witnesses report having hair pulled in the crypt (exit) area with no one in sight, touched on the back by a hand in a car that ended up having no one in the car, seen people walk up the portrait hall or grand staircase, stop and vanish, faces peer from behind the corner at the top of the grand staircase, heard footsteps on the false floor behind the load area when there is no one else there, been touched on the face by unseen hands, seen a man in the exit mirror.
Disneyland - It's a Small World - Lights have turned themselves off/on by themselves, as well as the all the dolls moving without power.
Disneyland - Matterhorn Mountain - The ghost of a woman named Dolly, she was crushed to death after she fell out of her sled and was hit by the sled behind her.
Disneyland - Pirates of the Caribbean - The story goes that a young boy and his mom loved the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. The boy got cancer and his last wishes was that his ashes be spread over the Pirates ride. Disneyland rejected that for health reasons but his mother did it anyway. At night the ride operators can sometimes see a lone boy riding one of the boats on the video monitors, but when they check it out there is no one.
Disneyland - Space Mountain - both the ride itself and the women's (employee) locker rooms are haunted by the ghost of "Mr. One-Way", a guest who died on the Space Mountain ride back in the 1970's. On the ride, he is described as a large man with reddish hair and a red face, and has been seen by guests getting into a car with a lone rider, but he vanishes before the end of the ride.
Disneyland - The Star Trader (4th floor stock room) - Cast members have felt a cold, eerie wind on the 4th floor of the stock room, when there are no doors, vents, or windows up there.
Disneyland - the old "People Mover Ride" - Reports of operating, girls (especially those with long blonde hair) would sometimes feel an unseen someone pull viciously at their hair. The boy died a few years ago on a Grad Night when he jumped out of the cabin of the People Mover, got caught and dragged underneath the car. He grabbed desperately at his girlfriends long blond hair to save himself.
Disneyland - Tom Sawyers Island - The ghost (s) of one or two people have been seen on Tom Sawyers Island. At least three boys (all Grad night victims) have drowned in the Rivers of America.
Disneyland - Tomorrow Land - Reports of a menacing presence accompanied by cold spots.
