Ackroyd wants to make it a "passing of the torch" movie and he is writing it (I think he wrote the first two also). As far as I know it'll be the same director as well. He wants to have a group of ~5 newer actors and actresses to "pass the torch" on to. There is an LA Times article from earlier this year about it.
