Wanna do me a favor next time you go to dave and busters?
find the ferrari racing game in the arcade, with the 6spd manual...play it on any track but use the 6 spd(Not the auto, or paddle shifter) and PM me or reply to this thread and tell me how realistic it is...cuz to me it seems(keep in mind ive never driven) like one of the closest videogames to reality...so is it anything at all like driving an actual stick?
When I played it, I thought Gran Turismo 3 for PS2 was pretty good at simulating car handling, shifting and braking, but I haven't tried this Ferrari game at D&B.
In any way, I think these games only give you an idea of when to shift the manual tranny and not how. I've recently learned how to drive stick and had to go through the same thing, i.e. I knew when to shift it, but getting smooth shifting was another story. More than half the time I still get the jerk when going from 1st to 2nd. Stalling could be another problem, but I haven't ran into that much at all (stalled 3 times total - twice in a parking lot, once at a traffic light). Have also had good luck with starting uphill so far.
From all the games that I've played those issues were never a problem, it was just a matter of watching your tach and shifting in time.
So that's my take on the games. I don't think that they represent reality very well, unless this Ferrari game is different in that it has a clutch. They simulate the handling and acceleration
well, but if shifting is only done by pressing a button (or moving a lever up and down or even in the 1-6 shifting pattern that looks like a real thing) it is far away from reality....That's what I think,
but also keep in mind that I'm a noob in driving manual transmission cars myself, "pro drivers" might have other opinions.
Next time I go to D&B I'll definitely check out the Ferrari game though.
Btw, awns729, which one did you go to? The one at Palisades mall?

The 6sp is very realistic feeling. Probably as realistic as an arcade game can get. I especially like the feel of the clutch pedal on it, and the 3-screen setup
Hey did anyone ever play the "full-size" Ridge Racer back in the day that had the Miata hooked up to the big ol' projector screen? It's been so long I don't remember if you could use the 5sp manual from the Miata for the game. Ah the good ol' days
