He got 2 years in prison updated as of 20 mins ago

He'll have probation tacked onto that and will probably get out early for good behavior. He got off REALLY easy and even I think it's BS and I usually am big on supporting cops. He killed someone, being SUPER RECKLESS and all he gets is 2 years? They even have it on video, imagine if they didn't? He'd probably be walking if it wasn't on video... I hate how courts side with police officers no matter what the case might be, like they are super human and can't tell lies. It's all BS, we're all human and we're all flawed and that includes police officers.

Crap! I just read this:
7 months? He'll be out before that 7 month marker too, you'll see. He should at least have to serve 2 MORE years on top of his already served time, but that judge had a hard on for cops and gave him the min.
This is a bunch of BS.
With credit for time he has already served behind bars, Mehserle would be eligible for release in about seven months.

That's absolutely absurd and for once's a lawyer's proselytizing via a new's conference rings with a stark sense of truth. From the SFGate article: "John Burris, an attorney for Grant's family, said at a news conference afterward that the message to African Americans in the Mehserle case is that "your life ... can be taken from you with no just cause and no price to pay." This is the reality in terms of what this message means, regardless of whatever the judge's intentions were. To me the message goes even beyond race, beyond if you're brown you better get the F down, though discussing how race impacted this situation is so terribly important in bringing some sense of healing in our community. The message this sentencing carries is that your personal safety is your personal responsibility. That those who are sworn to protect and serve you and uphold your basic human rights can be and may be a threat to your civil liberties and life without fear of retribution. As a lifelong resident of Oakland and someone who has been in a line of fire in broad daylight, I am sad to say I fear for my safety more during a traffic stop than biking through west oakland. I hope and pray that there is no more loss of life from this sentencing, either tonight or in the future, but I doubt that will be the case.
Anyone have info on how is that the gun enhancement was thrown out because it was not supported by the evidence?

A commenter on the sfgate article put it best:
"A BART officer from Napa shoots a Hayward man, yet Oakland pays the price. Unfair."
Weaksauce.
