wake from an A380 during departure from london heathrow. cant tell if its shot with some kind of thermal camera or with a Doppler system,, either way its badass.

 

It was either posted here before or I saw it on Giz, and I think it said this was to illustrate a problem with the design of the plane. Pretty cool though. Does that look normal or not? I don't know what a "normal" wake should look like.

 

the design challenge was making a wing small enough to not fall off the plane (and fit into airports) while still being large enough to provide lift. that vortex looks pretty normal. check out this one made by a c130:
