third one down says validation bypasser. dont know if it woudl work, thats the one piece of software i actually buy (though i just bought the upgrade from www.pricewatch.com and used and old win98 cd for validation) because its such a hassle if you dont have a good copy.

after you fail the validation, when you are in an IE browser, go up to "Tools" and then "Manage Add-ins"

There will be an Add-in for the Genuine Validation, Deactivate it and then go back to windows update. You will get a prompt saying you have a disabled add-in, but that will be it

Microsoft "Genuine Advantage" cracked in 24h: window.g_sDisableWGACheck='all'
AV sez, "This week, Microsoft started requiring users to verifiy their serial number before using Windows Update. This effort to force users to either buy XP or tell them where you got the illegal copy is called 'Genuine Advantage.' It was cracked within 24 hours."

Before pressing 'Custom' or 'Express' buttons paste this text to the address bar and press enter:

javascript:void(window.g_sDisableWGACheck='all')

It turns off the trigger for the key check.

Yep, works like a charm.

I tried this, but it still fails to install SP2. Also, I tried the other method but never see the "manage add-ins" in the tools dropdown. Odd.

i read somewhere that you should be able to download the IE upgrade which lets you "manage add-ins" however, i can't seem to get that download either.

I got it going, but it took some time. You need to get SP2 from somewhere other than Microsoft. This update that lets you manage the add-ins is IE 6.0.2900.2180. Any level before that, you will NOT get the selection of 'manage add-ins' in the tools menu. You can use Peaty's java thing to get all the updates, but you need to find SP2 from someone who already has it downloaded and on disc. Same goes for anti-spyware.
