The fines levied to Chevron for bypassing pollution monitoring equipment for 4 years was a grand total of $170k. That's chump change to a company like Chevron. Instead they're raking in billions during these past 2 months. Ridiculous

Might as well move to Japan. I got the citizenship, then now have access to better cars at around the same gas prices and a definite job.

Don't let me forget MUCH BETTER FOOD.

OH and short skirts :P

How much do you think they saved by bypassing those checks? Hell of a lot more than $170k.

The country bends over backwards to let oil companies do wtf they want.

The world does. It's silly. But we're screwed. The world revolves around transportation. YOu want to travel you need energy. So those that control it... oil/electric... bend you over to get it.

It's like this zombie book I'm reading right now... you want to stay alive you eat brains. If you want brains without murder... you pay for them.

But we have more control than we're aware of. We just don't use it.

I think it's hilarious that these oil companies are the ones that are being leaned on to come up with alternative fuels and alternative energy sources. They get the good press, they spend a few million bucks a year and they get 5 times that in tax deductions based on the studies. It's a win win. They get paid to drag their feet.

It's ****ing insane.

You really think unemployment magically went down? Then you're not paying very close attention. You think there is a reason besides greed for gas prices going up... then you're not paying close attention. Who benefits off of these prices???? Oil companies and the government. Period.

You think this is bad... it stays up this high much longer and watch your grocery bill go up 20 percent as well.

I'll be staying home a lot until this **** goes back down. We as a nation need to put our foots down and stop this bull****.

And that's why there's still no real push for natural gas as an alternative to oil. The US finds/produces/makes (whatever you want to call it) an overwhelming amount of natural gas, the most out of any other country. There's so much NG supply that we could easily be self-sustained instead of relying on foreign oil and supplying the terrorists with money.

So... big box gas companies like the Chevron, 76's spiked up.. but wtf why are the independent small shop gas shop MORE than the big box names? That's almost going to guarantee they're driven out of business?

Some of them are actually having to shut down until the prices drop. I know one close to my house is shutting the pumps off. They can't afford to get more gas right now when prices will just drop and they won't be able to pay for what they have.

Basically all gas comes from the same pipelines. The little guys get their gas from the big guys and they don't get as good a deal as the big guys give themselves. A lot of small shops make very little money off gas. The one I worked at made about 9 cents a gallon.

It's very hard for a little guy... especially one without a snack shop and garage.

So basically it's 3 oil companies squeezing out the CA consumer right now. Chevron with their Richmond refinery fire, Exxon with their Torrence refinery with "power outages", and Valero temporarily stopping supply to Costco and other unbranded stations, but supplying their own Valero gas stations.
