it sucks but there is nothing we can do about it, gas is still like 3x cheeper than europe, they pay like 3 euros a litre, that is some bull****, i think my next fun project car will be a civic hybrid!!!!
then i will custom turbo the hybrid gas/elec engine, think it can be done?

I was just contemplating a raced-out hybrid car today. Better yet, I'd like to add a hybrid fuel cell to my current wrx and see what kind of extra power can be had! Wouldn't that be nice...

EU pays for more for gas because of taxes. In UK, every pound you spend on fuel, more than 70% of it is taxes. If you have driven in the UK, you will come to the conclusion that the money isn't spent on roads, traffic management, etc.

In California, it is about 20%, so your $2.50/gal, $0.50 goes to the federal government and state. Of the $0.50, the state gets about $0.30 and the feds get the rest. ...so, now you got to ask yourself. Why would the government want you to drive any less, or anything less than a H2? The more you spend on gas, the more taxes they collect.

new "baby bullet" caltrain service starts next wk... SF to SJ in less than an hour. only 5 stops along the way http://www.caltrain.com/news_2004_5_...d_service.html

as for the UK roads - i lived there for 2 years and commuted about 45 miles every day and drove a lot of the motorways. the taxes they collect from petrol definitely goes to maintenance of their motorways (highways) - they are in 10x better shape than ours. smooth asphalt everywhere which made driving so much more enjoyable than in the u.s. now the smaller roads in and around london are a different story, but there is no comparison between the big high-speed roads.

referring to the fact that he could increase caltrans and local mass transit budget. said nothing about him controlling the gas prices.

and experts expect price to continue to rise throughout the summer due to the the number of refineries down, the war in Iraq, and even the current attacks in Saudi Arabia.

haha...and the more money they get from gas tax means the more they can siphon off of the original caltrans budget and say "hey look...caltrans doesn't need this money...it already has plenty of gas-tax money". net effect...caltrans budget remains steady. only problem is...caltrans budget was way below what is needed just to maintain the current road conditions.

look....i'm not blaming the state officials for not being able to find a way out of this budget mess. there simply isn't enough money to go around. i'm just laughing at the governator for selling his budget like it's simple magic.

prices will keep increasing through november.. george bush needs his campaign funds from his oil company connections. although prices will proly suddenly drop right before the election.. along with the capture of bin laden.. ensuring bush's re-election.

that's why I have a chevron card...save like 5 cents a gallon...whooo hooo..haaaa. That and own gas company stock. So some of the money I'm spending goes back into my families pockets anyways.
