Fogs don't work

I ordered some DDM tuning HID kits hi/lo for the 02-03 headlights, and it seems that once installed, the fogs don't seem to be working. But when I switch back to the halogen lights, then it seems to be perfectly fine. Anybody have any clue why my fogs don't work when the hid kit is installed?

Also I noticed that when I am on low beams and press the fog light button, my high beam indicator on the instrument cluster lights up, and the light on the fog light button is really dim...

I want to fix this issue as I will be doing a retrofit soon and don't want to run into the same problem, since I'll likely be using the oem style connector to power the retrofit..

The HID kit is junk or you installed it incorrectly.
Most likely the kit is crap; haven't seen a kit yet that is worth a ****.

Steeze, do your hi beams actually work?
I had to same problem with the hi/low kit i got like 6/7 months ago. My hi beam indicator was on all the time (even when the low beams were on) and the hi beams didnt work (neither did my fogs). I called the vendor i got them from and said wtf... They told me that this is a known problem on subarus and fords..... i was pissed that i spent the extra money for a hi/low kit when it didnt even work.

So months later my friend and i finally got tired of it and decided to plug away with a volt meter. We made our own harness instead of using the one that came with the kit, and we got everything to work just fine!

Kevin let me take a look at it, or send me some pictures of how its wired in etc. Where'd you get the kit? Directly through them?

did you take your power from the parking lights and wire it to the fog relay or did you bypass the relay and connect the parking lights power directly to the positive on the foglights or did you bypass the foglight relay and connect the parking light power to a switch that leads to the positive of the foglights

IIRC, the kit is plug n' play. Kind of hard to fubar the install.

haha i have no idea honestly, a friend of mine did it...all i know is that i could have the fog lights on when the parking light switch on the steering column was turned on...so the fogs would be on even without the key in...

after a while it stopped working and once i clicked my high beams and a little smoke came from behind the dash

thats a trip,i would definitely say something shorted if a little smoke came out, but i dont see how the highbeam would short it out ( yes im captain obvious). i would try and find where the foglights are tapped into power, that will more than likely be the source of your short. you should be able to cut the foglights positive wire and connect it to a power source to see if the fogs still work. if they do you just need to find a new power source and wire in a switch. i have my fogs wired straight to the battery with a fuse and a switch, i dont like messing with the OEM wiring harness too often. i would have to see how its wired to actually help. sorry man

My fogs don't work like normal either. However, if you turn the car off and hit the fog light switch + turn the headlight dial to on then fire up the car they go on for me. Bizarre I know. I think it might have something to do with the battery, but I'm not positive. Hope that works.

If you really want them to work, you might want to have an electrical whiz like Adam at LIC take a look. I'm wondering if it is something about the current draw? Did you get the 35w or 55w kit?

Yes my high and lo beams do work. For a while my fogs would work with low beams, but the high beam indicator would come on when I used the fogs with lo beam, then when I would switch to high beam, the fogs didn't work. Then when I switch back to low beam, the low beam wouldn't come on unless I pressed the fog light button to 'off'. It was like this for a little bit, then I played around with the high and lo beam wire that plugs into the oem plug, and put it back to the original way, and now the fogs dont work at all. There was a period where the fogs would work, but once I switched to high beam and tried to switch back to lo+fogs, the fogs would need like a cool down period or something like that anytime the fogs were turned off.

Hide- my wiring is righ I'm pretty damn sure of that. Grounded to the frame, one plug into the oem connector, red for hi and white for lo I think. Hooked up positive to the battery.

Stupid chicken- was it difficult to make ur own harness? I'm an electrical noob

If you dont know what you're doin with the electrical, you can mess A LOT up.

It took like an hour to test all the connections and solder everything up.

Adam + voltage tester = resolution to problem
