Well i've got SR50, DR725 FMIC, Perrin Big MAF Intake etc. etc.

I told him that the FMIC was legal, and both officers agreed, and told me that if I had changed the position of the throttle body or changed the BOV that that would have made it illegal...
just because those particular cops didn't cite you doesn't mean their knowledge of the CVC is correct or that FMIC's "are 100% legal."

i'm pretty certain that you and those cops are wrong, and aftermarket FMIC's without CARB E.O. #'s are NOT legal in CA....certainly not 100% legal.

Congrats on not getting cited though. You lucked out!

yea, you got REALLY lucky with the cops if you had all those. Anything that makes your car different from factory is illegal. But the cops still have the final say.

I've gone one step better, I am using two tornados on a split Y pipe in front of the air filter.

I don't think I can run the charge air through this....but I'll try it.

I was looking through the intercoolers list. I don't see Subaru listed in any of the applications.

I thought that the part had to be CARB approved for the specific application? For example, an intake that is CARB approved for a Toyota is not necessarly approved for use on a Subaru. Am I getting confused here?

FMIC is CARB legal, however, the BOV is not.

I researched this pretty heavy a while back when I got sent to the ref.

No modification of the intake or exaust track before the last cat is legal unless it has an approved carb number for your make and model car... period. A k&N filter does not come with a carb number/sticker and the ref told me "she" would over look that since it passed the smog test easily. This is a fight against street racing for CA... And the best way to combat it is to make any mods of our cars illegal unless the manufacturer pays to have it tested. They make money off the citations and the testing... And for alot of people, the hassle makes it less worth it. I dont believe for one second that it has anything to do with emissions or polution. It all because of stupid little street racers who are affraid to save it for the track cause they might get schooled.

BTW: I put the car completely back to stock from stage four accept the axle back to go to the ref.

Sorry... I'll get off the soap box now.

You can have a aftermarket BOV, as long as it isn't "OPEN", meaning that it has to vent into the factory air intake system.....As i recall...but this is in a "Gray Area"..

You guys would be suprised how many things are left up to the tech testing the car.

I guess my car will never have that mean look....i'm to worried i'll get a Ref. ticket.

One of the two cops that pulled me over told me that he had just taken a course/class on imports modifications. Unless you just read the CVC, I'd tend to agree with the cop since he obviosuly had just been schooled in the matter. He knew so much, that when he looked into my car, he asked me if the AVC-R was some sort of boost controller / fuel/air editor.

My luck ran out that day, I did get cited and was "sent" to the smog ref... I ended up getting the citation in the mail, so I paid the fine and hopefully that will take care of everything. The citation never mentioned anything about going to the smog ref, so i'm going to tell them I just paid the fine if i get pulled over and mention the ref... Hopefully that works...

The K&N filter should have a CARB E.O. #
