TAKE A CRAPLOAD OF CD'S/MUSIC.....although the ride through Oregon is beautiful.... I-5 is such a BORING drive 95% of the way.....LOOOOOOOONG STRAIGHT ROADS for the most part...

I had to drive to Portland once.....it took me 9.5 hours non stop from Sacramento to Portland (driving my lifted chevy tahoe). I am SURE the Subi will be much faster and more fun of a drive...

I'm an Oregonian, but I'll save the obligatory monkey icon for a more worthy occasion ... anyway, the drive from the oregon border to Portland isn't that bad. You'll go over the Siskiyou Mtns. at the border- the first city worth stopping at is Ashland--- I'd also recommend Omar's to eat - I lived about a block away when I went to school at Southern Oregon University in the spring- quality food, great bar (closest bar to a college campus in the US)-- dont be surprised by the food tax there-it catches many people off guard
I'd avoid Medford (trashy) and Grants Pass (aka methville), and I don't know what Roseburg has to offer (?). From Grants Pass to Roseburg I5 is quite hilly and curvy- you can test out your suspension, brakes, tires, and your raw hillclimbing power. After Roseburg, its a relatively straight shot to Portland.

And when you stop for gas, shoot some sh*t with the pro petrol pumper and enjoy being waited on... no reason to get mad or cause a scene.

If your conf. is b4 the 4th, you may want jump on over the bridge to Washington and pick up some "good" fireworks. They sell them there legally.

... and don't worry... I'm going back to the NW forum where I belong.

Before I go, here's one of my '90mph out-the-driver's-window' pictures I took on one of my many trips from Ashland to the central Oregon coast-- Most of em come out blurry

hey scoobysport, the girl i used to visit lived in ashland. it's not a bad place, i even went snowboarding at the hill they have there. it was during a blizzard, but it was still cool terrain. too bad i was driving my explorer back then... i think i was counter-steering the entire time cuz the roads were so icy.
