But hey, call it what you want to call it. People in here just seemed to be mislead or disagree or what not, since it has always, or commonly refered to the characteristics of a car.

I know how you feel skyliner35gtx... I'd be excited if I got even some oil filters in the mail.
Any item that's not a maintenence part to me is considered a modification, whether it's cosmetic, performance-oriented, or plain old accessory.

Cut the guy some slack, he just spent $30K on a pretty sweet vehicle.
Hell, the first mod on my 02 WRX wagon was a Scooby Doo license plate frame I picked up at Pep boys (while waiting for the tint guys down the street to finish up). Of course it was soon followed by many more mods...
Those mods eventually led to the demise of my 3rd gear, which led to a return to stock marathon, which led to an 04 STi. I held off on modding that for several months, unless you count swapping in all of the parts from the modded WRX that would fit.

Man some of you guys are harsh.
STi is an awful lot of car for some people - myself included. Went a year and a half on mine with the only 'mods' being floor mats and aluminum dead pedal before I finally decided to do something on the performance side. The only thing that matters is that you're happy with it.
Same here. Probably because this is the nicest car I've ever owned and the fact that I have basically zero mechanical inclination seems to make everything a big deal to me.

I'd just spend the extra dough and get a full cat back exhaust with cat, access port, custom road/dyno tune. The car will still be perfectly reliable and for the most part, faster than all hell. After having done that to my lowly WRX, I wish I'd done it as soon as I broke in the engine. As you probably already know,...a massive world of difference.

Don't worry, I didn't do jack crap to my 2.5RS until this year. Prior to that, I just had a JVC deck put in and installed a 2.5RS coupe wing. I've had the car for 3 years too. I remembered at the 2004 Mount Hamilton meet, BANSUV's and someone else walked over to my car and said, "HOLY CRAP! It's friggin' stock! Check it out!" I really did feel as if I had the last unmodified RS on the message board. o_O Heck, even now, I haven't even touched the suspension or the motor. So don't sweat it.

What is this "stock" thing that you speak of...?
