Fireplace question...
Leo, I just had my chimney inspected and minor repairs last week. I agree with Stan (tcover) to have the peace of mind. It was only $50. send me a PM if you want the guys name/number.
But, since you live in a condo (99.9%) the flue is fine. Look at the firebox to see if there are any cracks, if not then you are also 99.9% good to go. If I had to guess, I would say that you have non wood burning fireplace, the flue opening is way too small for real wood. And unless the firebox was cleaned, it sure looks pretty clean for a wood burning fireplace.

My family had to have a PG&E technician check out our gas fireplace when we moved in. There was a problem that didn't allow enough of the smoke and any other byproducts to pass up and out of the house. He said no logs are to be burned there and even when we use the gas fire it should be on the low to medium setting as the high setting just puts out too much junk into the house. i wouldn't recommend putting logs on it, my mom has a gas fireplace that is completely enclosed for the purpose of making sure nothing else gets in there.

Thanks bro, my inspectin was pretty recent (April 2004), so I would think it's okay. But yes, I agree, the flue opening is way too small. Damn these gas fireplaces. I love the one wood burning fireplace better.
Oh well...
Thanks again guys!

Yeah, when we had our chimney swept, I was kinda disappointed. I was expecting Dick Van Dyke from Mary Poppins. Some big (albeit jolly) dude in coveralls and a ShopVac. He did have those cool brushes tho'
I have to have my Chimney cleaned since we dont know the last time its been cleaned, unless if you count sticking a Christmas tree up it and setting it ablaze (my brother... what a stupid idea). I just dont want my roof becoming a giant Morter. Who should I call thats cheap and decent? Emphasize cheap.
