Fender Liners and CAI

Anyone here have issues running CAI without fender liners? My liners keep coming off on one side due to my fenders being rolled and I'm afraid to take them off completely due to my CAI/driving in the rain.

i would keep them on. mine ripped off and shorted out my fog lights. i also would go back to stock intake when it would rain due to lack of liners. ill be starting to design a "lowered liner" a bracket with thick rubber or plastic that hangs off the frame rails. allowing tire clearance and CAI protection from tire splatter

Not exactly what I wanted to hear due to the extra work, LoL. But makes sense. Yeah, I kept my stock intake box and actually thinking of putting it back on as I noticed a slight lag since I have not gotten the car retuned with the cai. I think I'm losing power too.

yea. hopefully within next month ill have a prototype done and tested. im sure a lot of the low scoobs (which is a good majority) might be interested. if theres anything i hate more than scraping lip, its throwing water into my engine bay and electrical parts.

I've notice that too when i had a cai I felt lag like there's no low end powa!!...but then I read that for us n/a it was best to keep the torque box a d just add piping on the end and the cone filter.

Zip ties fix everything body wise. I noticed the same lag/loss of power when I was running my intake in my 07. It's due to the loss of the resonator, it helps control air flow, not a silencer like most tend to think. The biggest thing I noticed when I returned to stock was it stopped the sudden surge down low especially noticeable in 1st gear.

The AEM Air Bypass Valve is NOT for use on forced induction vehicles. (taken directly from the website)

The turbo will suck up a lot more air and it will make the bypass open often also i believe even the AEM instructions for the wrx cai state not to use the valve.

You are correct - that didn't used to be the case... but it's been a lot of years since I was a dealer for these guys

I know back in the early 2000s when this came out it was all the rage cause most peeps had NA cars. Some used it on their turbo cars and found out the hard way that the foam insert in the area that is meant to collapse in and allow air if you start to suck up water, that foam piece got sucked into quite a few turbo impellers and you know/can guess the rest. So then AEM redesigned that piece and also put out the disclaimer of "not for forced induction".

Speaking from Personal exp here, it saved a good friends built NA motor from hydro lock back in the day. It would be cool if something like this existed and worked on boosted cars. The filter sock is a good start if you want to keep puddle splash and water that shoots off the wheel from entering the filter but beyond that it does nothing once you submerge the filter/front end in water.

It seems like the AEM piece is just a matter of increasing the release pressure on the valve
shouldn't be a big deal
