Gotta love that image. I was ROTFLMAO, and I showed it to my wife, and she got all bent out of shape!
She was like, "How would you feel if you had a Corky?" (Well, she didn't say "Corky", but I added it for effect!.
Huh! I think it is funny!
OwN3D!

That garage was trying to SCREW you to "repair" a problem that didn't exist!
Your ignition timing has nothing to do with the smog test. Simply put : it isn't tested/checked!
In other words, goto another smog shop and you should be fine.

They passed my brother, in the ****ed up Taurus! That's auto, and stalls at startup sometimes!
I don't get it, why'd they dick me?
Christian says he's gonna hook it up.

The ECM could be retarding the timing because it is pinging. When your car pings your tempertures go up and the hotter the temperatures the more NOX comes out of the tailpipe. So there could be a good reason they failed you.

Gagan, do you have the tailpipe numbers?

If you're not familiar with EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) operation, basically it "funnels" part of the exhaust stream back into the intake manifold to be reburned. I know this sounds pretty counter-intuitive , but it actually reduces emissions AND helps gas mileage. But here is the key : EGR is NOT enabled at idle or "no load" situations! It is also NOT enabled at WOT either....basically it is a "light load only" (i.e. driving down the freeway) type thing.
Side note : EGR is basically "not tested" right now due to no load. Once the dyno smog checks come in a few months (and thus it is tested "under load") expect to see a rash of failures that are almost all EGR related.
So now the REAL question : does the 2.5RS have an EGR valve?

Sorry to hijack the thread, but is it a law to have a <5 year old car smogged up there? In SD, it's only for cars 5 years old and more. I'm curious to know what WRX owners with uppipes and catless (or single cat) turbobacks are doing (or will be doing) to "pass" emissions testing. I'm starting to worry about it already with just one high-flow cat (in the dp).
