exhaust power question

- is it true that if you have an exhaust and you put a silence on you lose all the horsepower that the exhaust gives you?

- does it matter if you have the heatshield for your turbo on?

i dont see a point in running the exhaust WITH the silencer under normal day to day driving. You'll definately feel the lose of power when u get on it. If u wanted a quiet exhaust then u should go with greddy or prodrive or hush.

but to your question
1) n0

2) yes

I would guess that you would lose most of the hp gains if you put the silencer in. It restricts the flow big time, atleast on my cat back it does. I have the Espelir and if I put the silencer in it cuts the exahsut tip down to the size of a 1990 honda civic stock muffler, (about 1.5 inches maybe 2in). I would think that that would take away a lot of the flow of the exhaust.

It's not worth getting an aftermarket muffler if you leave the silencer in, better just to take out the last catalytic converter and keep your stock muffler which gets OK horsepower/tq numbers as-is.

When you put your exhaust silencer in, you won't lose ALL the power made by the aftermarket exhaust, but you'll lose enough to feel it.

And keep the heatshield in. You don't want the hot turbo spreading its heat to the rest of your engine bay.

Well what about the guys who road race their daily driven cars? I mean for me its convienent to run no silencer when im at the track but when you dont want to get a ticket and dont need all the hp to run the silencer on the street. We dont really need all the HP our cars have anyways while running on the streets. Its dangerous and I dont want to get sent to a state smog ref. I guess it depends on what your situation is.

im just wondering because it took me till like 1230am the other night to do my exhaust and i forgot the heatshield bracket that goes onto the downpipe bolts and wondering if that makes a differance. just thinking if i should struggle with those downpipe bolts again which were a B1TCH to get off!!

damn you shoulda wrapped your DP or had it ceramicoated, that makes a real difference against radiant heat.

Buy a Cusco heatshield. It just uses your IC bracket and takes like 10sec. to put on. Looks good too.
