Exhaust install question

Quick question: I have a TurboXS Turboback and Helix Flex Uppipe to install. Do I need to get a Cel fix also?

i believe so for the downpipe in the turboback and for the helix flex uppipe u need to do the 2.2k ohm resistor

you'll proly get a cel, but my cel has been on for the past 11 months. I am waiting to reflash. I have'nt had any problems, and I have significant power gains with it still on.

Been reading up but now I'm totally confused. I thought the cel fix was for the front sensor, the one before the Uppipe?

Somebody straighten me out here. There's two o2 sensors correct? One before the Uppipe and one after the Downpipe. Which is the cel fix for? And do I need to do anything for the other o2 sensor?

i got a flash today from bill @ i-speed. worth the time and money, and no more CEL. Nothing like having a custom map on your car for all your parts.

you don't worry about the cel fix in the up pipe
you just put the cel back in and it will not throw a cel (if it does i can clear it for you)
the cel fix is for the down pipe wiring

The sensor in the uppipe is not an O2 sensor, it is an EGT gauge. If you are not reinstalling it in your new uppipe (which is the recommended course of action), you will need to plug in a 1/2watt 2.2kohm resistor to prevent that CEL/limp mode.

The O2 sensor after the downpipe will throw a CEL for reduced cat efficiency, so you need a fix for that too. Pony Express has been working great for me for over a year. And I just ghetto hand wound the wires together!

Thank you, Mexicanpizza. I understand now. Well, except for one part. The recommended course of action is to reinstall or to not reinstall the EGT probe? I was planning on reinstalling it.

from personal experience i would not reinstall the probe. I put thread lock on the probe and after 5k miles it came out. Went to gruppe-s to get new gaskets because i thought i had a leak at the manifold to uppie but when i got there tommy took a look and notcied the probe had came out. I guess the flow of the exhaust on the probe can make it come loose and it will just spin out. Just go buy a bolt and cap the egt bung off with it. The correct bolt size is M12 x 1.25

My EGT probe went back into the uppipe. If I were to do it again, I'd put a bolt in there and have it tack welded if I never intended to replace the probe.

I think with stainless steel uppipes there may be a problem with either the seat for the probe or the dissimilar metals expanding at a different rate, which may cause loosening of the probe.

Haven't had this problem with mine yet but I have heard of it happening...

I did have one of my bottom flang bolts come out and then it blew a gasket...this may be from not having a flex joint.

All you guys that reinstalled the EGT sensor make sure not to panic when your car goes into limp mode....pretty scary. It might just throw a CEL though if it fails on the low side.

My EGT sensor lasted ~5k miles in a catless uppipe before it triggered limp mode in the middle of a fast corner. Not fun. I ripped it out, stuck a bolt in there with some high-temp thread locker...and i'm good to go.
