I went last month I think it was and it was already 30 days and the paperwork hadn't been turned in at that time. The woman there said they are backed up 90 days. So I should be getting the courtesy notice very shortly.

Just make your own decision. If you don't want to get a ticket for it, don't modify your exhaust.

Im pretty sure it is legal, just go get it sound tested and carry the certificate that it is in compliance if you pass.

the guy (forget his name) from S-Squared in Sacto. posted the info for proving your exhaust is in compliance with the sound testing, but I don't know if that's relevant to the "Modified Exhaust" ticket.

I have a stock (read = ricey) '04 STi with a Tanabe SMR catback (single tip) and I got pulled over late at night in Danville, and he told me he was pulling me over for modified exhaust. I gave him my DL (which has a LEO friend's card on the back), and told him that my car came that way. I pointed out all the stickers, the big scoop, the big Wing, the badges, etc.

He walked to his car, walked back and handed back my DL, and said "one of these days someone's gonna give you a ticket for your modified exhaust", and left. He didn't even mention my missing front plate.

I have no doubt that my single-tip N1 looking exhaust had a big part to do with it.

I love the HKS Carbon-Ti, but I think it attracts too much attention. Its louder than my catback, and with the Borla Hush, you can't go wrong.

Think about it:

You won't have any problems selling your HKS, and the Hush is well-made and makes power.

Just my .02
