EGT Guage necessary? install?

well i've had my AP stage 2 for a couple months now and i've been reading around on nasioc and majority of the people think the egt is necessary. Is it really? I read further and the install looks like something i dont have the tools for. Anyone know where i can get it installed for a fair price? thinking of purchasing a bezel too and having it all installed at once with my boost guage thats already on.

i would highly recommend a egt gauge just so you'll know how hot your exhaust gases are. it can get pretty hot and it would be good to know that. i would recommend gruppe-s or mpj or any local bay area subaru shops to intall it.

I think I paid $65 @ Gruppe-S for the install of mine (+ gauge cost of course). I think it was pretty fair.

It's better to get it professionally done, because DIY you can get the metal shavings stuck in your header (IIRC that's where you tap it?) and then it'll go straight to your turbo and you'll have those being tossed around your turbo.

if you have an aftermarket up pipe can't you just pull the stock egt sensor out, put in a resistor and install the aftermarket youself? That is if you wanted to?

THere's a welder that Soren at mpj knows that will tap your header in the right spot...then take your egt probe and gauge to Gruppe-S....i had them install my Zeitronix unit and couldn't be happier.

The UP is a terrible place to out the EGT. You want it as close to the cylinders as you can.

You can put your EGT sensor in your uppipe, it's not as good as tapping a single cylinder, but it's better than nothing. Even tapping a single cylinder isn't perfect, you may not be tapping the correct one.

The best thing you can do is tap all 4 cylinders....in fact there is a gauge that does monitor all 4 cylinders and I think it uses probes that don't tap into the stream but clamp on the outside of the pipes...this might be the best possible solution.
