ECU help!

Hi,
I purchased a WRX but the ECU is married to the previous owner's AccessPORT. (bastard) I want to purchase a AP and reach stage2, but I can't with my current ECU since its married and won't work with other AP's.

Is there anyone in the Bay who has a tactrix cable and has experience with a tuning program who is willing to help me reflash my ECU back to stock? TIA!

I dont know if GST would charge to override the ECU and flash it back to stock, but if they do charge, Im sure theres a member on the site that would be willing to do it for free or for the price of a burger

Good news! I gave GST a call and they said they could erase the previous AP and i could use another one. Best of all, they'll do it for free. Free!

yeah, since cobb isnt as nice as GST. Cobb also makes it sound like a more dire situation if the AP and ECU part ways without being unmarried. All you have to do is use any kind of reflashing software to reflash the ecu with the stock ROM

By reflashing the ecu back to stock, will it completely remove the AP from my ECU? Or is it just gonna leave it there, except running a stock map. I want to know because I plan to buy a AP in the future and I want to be able to marrry it to my ECU.

Also, I gave Cobb a call. They said they could completely remove it just as long as i pay shipping and $40 for labor. But theres also some downtime, and I don't know how long it will take for them to ship it back.

So now I have two choices:
1) GST. Get it done free, but not completely fixed.
or
2) Cobb. $$+downtime, but at least everything is fixed.

What would you do? tia

Using the OpenECu tools to flash it back to stock is EXACTLY the same as what Cobb would do. There would be no remnants of the AP or Cobb's changes anywhere - it would be as though you went out and bought a new ECU from SOA.

You wouldn't have any problem marrying a new APP to it in the future.

This is how I understand the whole process and from a logical stand point it makes sense.

The stock rom file is placed back into the ECU. This causes the ECU to take on a stock form and overwrites all data. Currently, your ECU has some data coded into which the Accessport reads and recognizes. Flashing the ECU back to a “stock” state would remove or cover up the AP data which currently is housed on the ECU.

I think COBB may have a way to delete the data the AP writes versus flashing the ECU.

Thanks to STiYLIN, mcowger, and KOSTI for the replies. I'm gonna go with GST first since they're local and its all for free. If I still come across any problems, I'll just go ahead and send my ECU to Cobb. Right now, GST says they are waiting for the equipment needed to reflash the ECU to ship in. So right now, theres nothing I can do but wait for a phone call from GST. Until then, anyone in the Bay have a tactrix and know how to use OpenECU and reflash my ECU for me? I'll buy you a burger
