from what I know, it effects the way eddy load is applied to the rollers. The number is amount of HP is needed to maintain the car at 50mph, like calculation for drag and among other things which effects the final #s.

what psi were you running? nice numbers...

I wanted to wait for a nice, hot day when the car would be as close as possible to knock to get aggressive with it and set more accurate temperature-based correction. The 17 hp came from pushing more timing and holding more boost to redline than before. It still never knocked once the entire time. There's more in it, but safe is good. It's not maxxed and that's cool with me. Almost all of that torque came from timing...

Boost was more of a pain in the butt on the dyno than on the street. It wasn't as consistent. Those fans just didn't do the trick.
so tuning on a dyno with minimal airflow over the cooling system he was able to make more power than he was by road tuning?

Wait so if the number were higher than that mean it takes more power to keep 50 mph, meaning the dyno is applying more load? Would that mean higher or lower overall numbers? Seems like it would mean lower overall numbers????

I'm running ~ 18.5 psi. It was less consistent on the dyno than it is on the road.

Lol. Yes. But comparing the two numbers would be unfair in the same way that comparing Ed's numbers to the previous tuner's numbers on the same setup would be. I went from Uber conservative to very conservative to slightly conservative.

Given the choice, I would have road tuned it today also. I hit the dyno ONLY to get graphs for the people who wanted to see them. It was not as nice as tuning on the road. Even a Mustang dyno is only a semi-decent simulation of real life. The main thing that makes me feel good about it is how hot the car was as I know it will never, ever be that hot on the road... should be safe as hell. I swear to god, doing it on the road was more consistent and smoother. It's also less boring. It really does produce a better tune.

btw -- he's a pic of the radiator fan (screen grab from video)... hahahaha. Not the best I've ever seen . I eventually put it up on that wooden thing and it seemed to do a bit better. The same fan was on top of the intercooler....

It'll be a welcome addition when they get the snail/bouncy castle fans...

Oh really? Awesome. That will be cool to see the exact difference. Those are also amazing numbers, btw ...some of the highest I've ever heard of for a VF34...

AFR stayed under 11 the whole time... between 10.8 and 10.9

Even with 208 degree coolant temps in a hot room with a toasty intercooler after multiple runs in quick succession, never a sign of knock. There's more in it but I don't want it, haha.

actually at least 4 of us at Gruppe-S with vf34 putting down around 265 to 275, all running around 17.5 to 18psi @ 10.6 to 10.8 afr...

Yeah, Mike mentioned to me that he hasn't been able to get more power out of VF22's than VF30/4's... I think the older compressor design negates the larger size. A worked VF34 would have probably been the better choice... although a couple hundred bucks more.

Oh well

A front mount instead of the JDM top mount would be a nice touch. They're not exactly all over the place for the Legacy though. Plus it's enough power for me for a while ... I can handle the slightly more stealth look and less lag... for a while....
