dumb question/funny story

feel free to flame me for being dumb - it's kind of cold today anyways.

my question:
do you really need to take off the entire front bumper/body panel to install a license plate delete on a 05wrx? i got bored yesterday and tried to install it, but after realizing that i could not fit my hand in enough for the back bolts without wrenching off the front end, i gave up and ate dinner.

the funny part:
i'm not one for breaking the law, but my roomate who gave me this license plate delete is a cop in the bay area. go figure.

i'm talking about this thing:

thanks in advance.

all you have to use are course threaded screws without any nuts on the back(that's what i did), unless there's already holes and the screws won't have anything to grab, so then you might have to use bolts with a nut on the back side. do you try poping the hood and seeing if you could reach it that way?

Welp its one of those 'at your own risk" things. I'll probably run no front plate until I get a fix it ticket for it, and pending that I want one of those angled "JDM" front plate mounts. Anyone know where to find em?

yeah the holes are already there, so no luck drilling or threading into it.

and yeah - popped the hood, removed the plastic grill and even pulled the front part of the plastic fender off (from headlight to headlight) and my sausages could not get in there...

well, one did. then i dropped the nut.

I just run the plate with Cobb frames! I've been pulled over twice for no plate so I'm not risking it anymore.

If you're at SF, go to Japantown, and hit up the auto store there. They have the angle plates for 20 bucks if I remembered correctly

Use coarse thread screws (wood screws)... There are fine threaded screws and then there are coarse threaded screws... You need the coarse threaded screws...coarse threads will grab at the holes in the bumper... no nut needed in the back... You need to get the biggest screws that you can fit through the delete and they should grab when going through the holes in the bumper...

I would first try to use the wood type screws. If that doesnt work and you need to get behind the bumper, you could always remove enough rivets to get your hand under it.

this is a good idea - i'll try this one for sure. i wonder how secure it would be though? when i try it, i'll snap some pictures and show them off.

yeah, did this and removed all the top rivets. my hands were still to big to get in there without popping out the bottom rivets which essentially just takes off the entire front end. maybe i need a person with small hands to help me out now? regardless, i still have to remove my front end now to find that nut.
