BTW - I learned to drive stick on a '79 RX7. I miss that car. It was a lot easier to drive that car than my Subaru. Practice makes perfect

I learned to drive in a stick, when my age was still in single digits. Yeah, 9 years old, and driving my father's Peugeot 404 with the stick behin the steering wheel (damn frenchs). After that, a Toyota Pickup was heaven for me (with the stick on the floor).
Have driven MT all my life, except for like a year of owning a Nissan Bluebird. Feel streessed when driving automatic, I need to have total control of the car in any situation. Call me freak

Geez man, you're acting as if I'm commiting a sin, as if I'm not taking proper precautions during my learning process to drive the car or planning to ruin the car. Look, I don't have any friends with beater cars to mash the gears in. I'm planning to learn on this car REGARDLESS. It's not like I'm the only person who's ever learned how to drive stick on their Scooby. -_-

Ah okay. I just thought for a moment that I would get yelled at or something for disgracing the car or whatever. My misunderstanding. Sorry dude. :P

I remember when I was learning, I was driving a friend's car and I can't remember exactly where we were, but we got stopped at a light on a steep uphill. I was so scared about rolling back into the car behind me, I just kept trying to rush the pedals. Kept stalling it. I just couldn't do it and people were behind me waiting. I finally had to get out of the car and switch seats in front of everyone so he could get the car over the hill. Talk about a walk of shame!
My advice is before you find yourself in this situation, go practice on a hill in some residential area. Don't panic when the car starts rolling backwards. In most situations, you'll have atleast 3 feet between you and the car behind you. You'll get the hang of it.
And if your really worried about it, when you see a car coming up to you, let your foot off the brake and roll back an inch or two to let them know your driving a stick so they'll back off a bit. I don't know anyone who would pull right up behind a car that's rolling backwards.
